Damn upgrade bug has bitten me... I was supposed to do this weeks ago but money problems and bills popped up and threw me off track.. But my bro has decided to finance my core 3 purchases, and is also dumping his old 2GB of DDR2-800 on me, so I didn't have to worry about that.. Bastard is going to go for 4GB.. (I wouldn't mind 4 - 8GB either..).. So I'll pay him back over the next month and all is good..

My PC has had a good run though... Had most of the parts for over 2 years.. except the recent 500gb addition and the SoundBlaster Xi-fi Gamer card.. Probably gonna have to get some better speakers too.. He took his Logitech 5.1's back and gave me his crappy 2.1's that have an issue with the volume knob causing the speaker it's mounted on to cut in and out..

But aside from that, new toys were ordered and should be here tomorrow... hopefully in the afternoon or sooner..

Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 Conroe 2.13GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115016) woot.. Should easily overclock to 3ghz on stock air cooling.. Hopefully I can get it to around 3.5 or higher, and if I change out my water block hopefully close to 4ghz when all is said and done..

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128050)

It will be my first non Epox motherboard in 4 or 5 years, but it looks like a solid product and good performer.. Plus it has the 1333 FSB that recently came out. Maybe it's flashy marketing too. But I am really impressed with the board and the technology behind it.. Looks like some advanced stuff is making it into PC's these days.. (sold capacitors, the ferrite and mosfet changes, etc)

I also got a new Power Supply because mine is getting old.. Has been through 1 Lightning Strike, and is not fully ATX12V compatible (even though my current Epox mobo uses it fine).. I am replacing it with another Antec, of course.. People rag on Antec, but I have used them for years, and I guess I am brand loyal..

This one is a modular PSU - these are the future. Easy to use, only plug in what connectors your need and saves all the cable clutter in your case too.

Antec NeoPower NeoHE 550 ATX12V 550W Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, CUL, TUV, CE, FCC, CCC, CB, C-tick (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817103941)

So hopefully my PC will have these specs soon..

3 - 3.7Ghz Core 2 Duo
2GB DDR II-800
550W Modular PS
Geforce 6800
19" Samsung LCD
SoundBlaster Xi-Fi - Xtreme Gamer
Logitech X-540 5.1 Speakers (70W RMS)
1x 300GB Seagate Barracuda SATA II
1x 500GB Seagate Barracuda SATA II
ASUS - DRW - 1612BL (16x DVD/CD Burner)

With the exception of probably adding 2 - 4GB over the next year, and upgrading my Graphics Card too, I probably won't have to really upgrade the PC at all for at least 3 or 4 more years now.. Except for changing hard drives as my space needs increase. Going to be my first ever Intel CPU, barring the handmedowns parts I started off with over the years when I was 11/12 and got into building PC's.

It's gonna be sweet... I can't wait.. And it won't hurt AC's performance either :D

Hey, sounds like a nice upgrade.

The only suggestion I would add would to be bump up the wattage on the PS.

550 wats should be fine today, but if you start to look at the 8800 vid cards and possibly SLI, power needs go up fast.

I was having wierd MB problems after bumping up my VC and it turned out that the stock PS was 300 watts. replaced it with a 960 watt unit and all the issues vanished.

Good luck with the upgrade.

By the time I move on to SLI (If I can ever justify the cost) I would likely need a new PSU anyway.. I'm starting not to worry so much about watts though, as it is more about how many amps your hardware is pulling than how many watts your PSU puts out.

Thats why there are OEM/Retail systems out there with incredibly "weak" power supplies. Everything has been calculated for power consumption.

Pretty happy with my upgrade though.. Ran it for a week or so as it came, then shut off all the throttling and opened it up.. 2.6ghz is about as high as I dare go with the retail HSF included, I'm sure I could get anothet 1ghz out of her once I buy a new water block for my intercooler.
