View Full Version : AC Connection... Impossible?

I am a returning player in Japan

I was able to reactivate my account and update but after character selection (when I try to login) I get a blank chat box, a black landscape and an empty inventory, after about a minute my green link goes to yellow, then red, then thats all she wrote "server connection lost".

I checked the support page and I determined thats its not an antivirus or firewall problem (turned them both off anyway)

As far as the Router goes, I dont know what I can do about that. I get my internet from a company called softbank telecom. Basically its community WiFi, when I open internet explorer every new day I am prompted for a password and username which I pay for. I enter those and then I can surf to my hearts content. I use IE, limewire, Bittorrent and all sorts of other net programs with no problems. But as far configuring anything physically on the router, or reconfiguring it, I am not sure I can and I am pretty positive I am not supposed to. Since its housed in a big plastic casing in the main building of our apt complex, and used by lots of other people.

I tried anyway, went down and looked at it. Its a WAP made by a Japanese company named Icom... model AP-50 I think, there was no info about it on the Portfinder webpage....

I am thinking there is probably nothing I can do, and returning to AC will be imposible for me at present.

Any help or advice (or confimation of being screwed :) ) would be appreciated.

you could run a port-scanner and see if all the required ones are available.

Thanks for the advice

I had never used one of these before, but I am pretty sure I did it correctly

9000-9013 are all closed

so for I have found 22,80,442,447 are open

343 is stealthed?

I'll keep playing with this to find out if there are other ports open, I guess there are alot, like 10000?

Can I play AC on any port? or Does it have to be 9000-9013?

Yes you can change the port AC uses. Look at the FAQ post on info on how to do it.

I looked at the FAQ, the problem is that I dont think any UDP ports are open, which pretty much means Im out of luck I guess.

Unfortunately, if UDP packets aren't being allowed, there isn't a way to play. You might be able to talk to the network administrator to just have ports 9000-9013 UDP forwarded for your particular machine.

I found a program that can tunnel UDP, but I am not really sure if it can be used with AC, and it is very technical... way beyond my mediocre hacking skills

That MAY work, depending on how it sends/receives packets. If it's NAT, you should be just fine, but if it uses NAPT it won't be compatible. Setting it up will require a proxy server, which in many cases doesn't actually solve the problems with online games (there are exceptions, but they are rare). Have you tried contacting the network administrator?

I did, its very hard communicating my problems to thier headquarters (located in Tokyo) my Japanese is not very strong. They say that is for security and they will not unblock them, I tried to ask them about UDP forwarding specifically to my PC, but again it is very difficult to explain specifically what I want, especially when I do not fully understand it myself.

i am having the same exact problem as the original poster... I too reactivated my accounts and have been playing for 8 hours then i created my first new character since i stopped playing in 2006 and I am getting same problem as the original poster. i have a 2nd pc connected to same router and same connection and it is working. only the pc i used to create the new character wont launch. i have changed ports for this pc. same outcome. Any ideas? since the original poster and i both were creating characters...is there a possible chance of a bug in the character creation?
