what do I fill in ?? what's it mean by private ports? ?? i went to the help section and searched for "forwarding" and it returned 0 results.
edit:
changed it to UDP.. and whether or not its on TCP or not i still get this error message. even if i fill in the private port thing.

in the "private ip adress " part , you have to fill in the ip of the pc you want to play AC with.
Edit oh and private port , put just the same as on inbound ports so 9000 - 9014

Thanks! I got the port forwarding to work unfortunately it's not fixing the problem I'm having. For some reason I can't get the mana bar to fill up for the Updating. It's just stuck there. The left bar fills, but the right bar isn't. I tried setting my computer on the DMZ but it didn't fix my problem, and I also tried setting my computer to an Access Bridge Point which started a whole host of problems. I had to go on 192.168.2.254 (i know, wtf is with the 254, but it said to go there and it wasn't working for like 15 minutes. then it just started working out of the blue.) so i reset the default factory settings and fixed other various issues. I'm still stuck even after port forwarding.
I don't know what to do. AC won't update!

I've been going back and forth between computers for the past 4 and a half hours trying to fix this problem. Why does AC always have problems after installation?

I'm having the same problem. I used port forwarding and DMZ (correctly) and it won't update.

Can I get some assistance please? I've been working on this for over a day now
I'm not 100% sure what you are doing but the forwarded ports must match the IP of your computer which I'm not sure you've done yet.
> what's it mean by private ports?
Just lets you send sort ports so you can run two FTP's at once.
http://web.belkin.com/support/kb/kb.asp?a=1448
You can ignore them as far as AC is concerned.

I would also give my PC a static IP address to make forwarding easier.

It's all forwarded and I still can't get in. I tried going DMZ again and it still doesn't work.

You are not alone.
Many of us have ongoing issues exactly like yours, eventhough we have our routers and firewalls configured properly.
However, there is a work around or two.
In your My Documents/Asheron's Call folder you'll find a file called UserPreferences.ini.
BACK UP THIS FILE BEFORE YOU MAKE ANY CHANGES TO IT
Open this file with Notepad.
You will find a line that says:
UserSpecifiedPort=0
Change this setting to
UserSpecifiedPort=9000
or 9005 or 9007 or whatever.
Save the file.
Run AC.
Update works, great.
Update doesn't work, change to a different number and repeat.
I have a shortcut to this file on my desktop.
Every time I want to fire up AC, I have to play roulette with the number until I can connect.
It's not pretty, but it works for me, I hope it works for you too. Let's just say, don't drop mule between accounts, as it can take many tries to get back in the game.
Another option, even if you don't dual log, is to use Drakiers dual log program - http://acdualclient.drakier.com/ . It allows you to autoport and specify a RANGE of ports to use, and it ignores the userpreferences.ini file setting.
Hope this helps, good luck and just know you're not alone.

I've tried that already. Before I posted my thread I looked around for other threads to see if anyone had any similar problems. I tried their solutions and to no avail.
I've been trying different ports for over a day now.

While i was trying different ports i decided to put in an absurd number up in the 100,000's and it worked. It started updating up to 35% and I got d/c. Restarted and WHOOPS! didn't work. So I put in another absurd number and it's not working. :( Grrrr

Verify that your using NAT and not NAPT. It looks like you have it set correctly though.
Also check and see if that router uses some form of SPI (Stateful Packet inspection)
AC will not run with SPI enabled.

Another thing iI thought of is for you to check and see if your modem is also a router. Most modern modems for DSL and some Cable modems are routers too. If that is the case then try to DMZ the modem since you already have a router.

well this sucks. now i have no internet access on my router. :( AC is causing too much problems for me, i think im just going to unsub my acct considering its been subbed for almost a year and I've logged on like 3 times.
ive been trying to get this to work on my gf's router since i spend most of my time at her house, i basically live there. I sleep there and everything.

That's from me being connected to the network next door to me. I forwarded the ports and made sure acclient and aclauncher had access to the internet. Didn't work again, I even tried setting this comp to the DMZ. Didn't work. (this is from a linksys router).
However, now that messing around with settings has rendered my connection completely useless on all of my computers for the past couple of days I am forced to use my neighbor's connection. I dont even get a Default Gateway, DNS Server, and WINS Server, so I can't go to the 192.168.2.1 on any of my computers like I was before, so I have no clue how to change the settings. Here's a picture.

perhaps you should restore factory settings on your router.
if you don't know how, go read its manual. if it's a linksys I think you usually just hold in the reset button and then plug in the power. and hold it in for 30 seconds while it starts.
then go try out stuff. go to portforword
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm
find your router. then find asheron's call. follow the guide.

I appreciate your help but if you read anything in this thread, I've done all that. I have a belkin router by the way. I'm currently using my neighbor's wireless connection because I can't configure the settings on my router anymore. I connect and I get no Default Gateway, DNS Server, or WINS Server ip, meaning im connected to the router with no connection to the internet. I can't restore the settings if I can't access the default gateway page to change them :(

Belkin should reset to factory defaults if you press and hold the reset button for 7 seconds.
Also, I notice you are using Firefox. Does your Internet explorer work (or did it). Even if you only use Firefox the game needs some files from a working copy if Internet explorer in order to play.

Yes I can use internet explorer, and the reset button is stuck.

guess you'll have to get it unstuck then...
also did you do what the other poster suggested about NAT vs NAPT. in fact you should call your Internet provider and ask them if their actual service uses NAT or NAPT. and get them to switch your connection if necessary to NAT which is what is required.
I'd also skip the wirless part and plug in a cable until you got it working properly.

I'm in the process of fixing the router right now.
Yes, I have NAT, not NAPT. I also have the option to disable NAT. (This is what messed it up and I couldn't change the settings cuz I couldn't get any DHCP). I got it to reset after smacking it a few times on the table, the button was lodged sideways inside the tiny hole, no way to get it out, so this did the trick. Now i can log on to my network configuration page and change settings, but on the top right it says "Not Connected" and I can't access the internet. How do I enable it to connect now? (I keep switching to my neighbor's wireless network to post on the forums)
Here's what it looks like: http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/8104/problemnv9.jpg

Can you bypass the router and plug directly into the modem? Can you unplug the modem for like 15 minutes then plug it back in?

No I can't plug directly into the modem from here. This is my girlfriend's house and I'd need to move a huge desk that goes up against the whole wall, not worth my time or takign down 1000 things from the wall to get to the plug.
I unplugged the modem for a few minutes earlier cuz i was browsing through the belkin forums and they suggested it there for someone else. I have internet service again on my connection and now I'm back to square 1 where I've tried everything and it won't work.
Is there any settings on my computer that I would need to change except for the user preferences.ini?

i didn't mean NAT on your personal network from your router down to your computer. i meant from your ISP to you. from their router to your modem.
other than userpreferences. um well there's your windows firewall. aclauncher and acclient should be unblocked. (ie added to exceptions)

you mean optimum online? thats the ISP i use.
scguy
11-04-2007, 10:08 PM
if that is your provider then yeah. although I'm not sure if it is only to do with DSL modems though or Cable modems too. optimum uses cable right?
what's your userpreferences look like.
Hazmat

According to optimum online they come with CA's Internet Security Suite Plus 2008 whch has a firewall and other security stuff. That might be blocking you.

I was having the same problem...
Tried port forwarding... didnt work
static ip.... didnt work
firewall was down ... didnt work...
48 hour of work...
countless hours on tech. support .....
with my isp and turbine...
never got past the uploading screen...
was at the point where i was about to kill everything and everyone....
heres where i enter my 2 cents......
i figured.... its not my comp.... its my network...
i was working on a laptop... dealing with wireless internet routing....
so i took it down to the local coffee house and tried uploading....
sure enough... im watching it tick away...
try switching up networks if you REALLY get desprit
it might just work....
