Make quests worth doing, so you can level entirly off quests and PKing. PVP should be more than a pissing contest, you should actually level if as a level 130 you kill a level 275. *shrug* Or when the game tells you a town is being over run by monsters if you assisst and hold the town it should be worth a grip of xp

I think there's some merit to gaining some form of Xp for PvP (whether it's Xp as we currently know it or something new), but you have to keep in mind that it will be exploited if not done properly (and I don't know how the right way to do it would be). And certainly if you help hold a town (or whatever), you should gain some Xp I think--hand in scalps or something if that's the only way the tech will allow it.
And for the record, you can level solely off quests--I've done it since lvl 200 (245+ now). It's just faster to UCM--24 hours a day of 200 million Xp/hr is tough to beat.
I'm not sure faster Xp-gains is the answer; I'd prefer something more along the lines of dungeons sweeps every 3 hours or so. These were brought up a while ago, a message is sent stating that a rumbling is heard and hoards of monsters are coming (something like that), then the live players recall out for just a minute while the UCM's get pwnt by the baddies. After they've cleared the dungeon, another message is sent saying it looks like they've left...for now.

if PvP battles allowed experience, the only way to prevent exploitation would be for the person of the higher level to actually lose XP. and to make it fair... it'd have to be a very significant loss.
so we'd be talking odds. if a level 10 beats a 100. the 10 gains maybe 1 mil xp. but the level 100 loses 100 mil xp.
this is to prevent a level 275 laying down for a level 5 and gaining a bunch of 'free' levels. if a level 5 beats a 275, he'd gain 10 something levels. for this... the 275 should probably have to lose 25% of total XP.
this may seem overly harsh, but i still think there'd be a LOT of players trying to exploit even these harsh rules.
AC has shied away from the loss of XP as a consequence... i doubt it'd rear itself here. it'd take a lot of design work from a staff that has too much to handle as it is.

I play both, and have since late November 1999.
Either way, my solution is the proper one if you want to kill UCMs.

I suggested something like this years ago, never got a response and obviously it hasn't been done, even though it'd
Kill UCM's
Possibly make hunting fun
Start giant PK battles if killing the special spawn was worth it
Although eventually UCM's could be programmed to recall if there's too many monsters in the area or a boss, but it'd still be cool.

I vouch for this. I don't have to macro for rares, I just go and kill UCMs at the rare macro spots.

I am all for PvP getting XP.
Two players fight it out and the loser gives up a certain % of XP of the next level of the winner. With a cap.
You get max bennefit if you fight within 5 levels of each other and it tapers off the further you are off in levels.
Something like that.
There are a lot of quests that will level you - you just have to crawl back to your keyboard to do them.

Just think, if you set the formula correctly, you could actually penalize folks killing level 5-20 people.

So what happens when 2 PVPers call a truce and kill each other to level? Or 1 guy with 2 accounts?
Rewards for PKing needs to be unexploitable. .. To me, that seems like the biggest hurdle.

Nothing will kill UCMing, except making in impossible to do. People UCM, because they get something for nothing. While making levelling easier encourages any new players or returning players not to UCM, it wont stop them and it certainly wont stop the ones that already do.

Make quests worth doing, so you can level entirely off quests
There's already a game for that. It's called World of Warcraft.
Anything short of an instant level 275 quest isn't going to stop UCM because nothing is stopping them from doing those quests and then UCMing. Besides, leveling isn't the only reason people macro.
Which isn't to say that making quests suitable for leveling purposes isn't a valid goal.

I don't understand why it is so evil to make leveling easier. This game has plateaued, to say the least. Would allowing every character to start out at 275 be a bad thing?! AC has always had a grind for levels, but there is also a huge grind for gear. I say give everyone free xp, and let the gear wars begin.
