I really enjoyed the story, I've always been a huge fan of the lore and storyline of Asheron's Call, it's just so deep. I appreciate Turbine's continued commitment to providing an immersive experience, and I hope to see more and more of the mystery behind dereth unravel...

I too really enjoy reading these stories, the hints and clues they give, and just the story in general.
It adds to the game, adds depth to the monthly updates and events.
Thanks for the creative work :)
I should point out that these are NOT teasers. These are not designed to tease upcoming content. They're just stories.

The stories that will be released are highlighting some of the larger events that have been occurring out of the site of players over the past couple of months.

I like how they give a nice overview of the landscape, storywise.

Oswald must be slipping not to make sure of a kill like that ;)

I inadvertently made a post in the discussions board about this:

How strange how the story parallels some Real world events....

They were very polished you could tell a lot of effort went into them. We need more stuff like this. Maybe a "Nuhm on the Run" story -- I'd love to read something where maybe Antius hunts her down relentlessly.

Not sure if this is another browser issue, but I can't see parts three and four; where the text should be I just get a white background. Browser version is IE 6 with the latest updates.

Me neither; I'm using Opera, so I don't think it's a browser issue. If it was, I don't think we'd see one & two either.

I can't either Eddie. Its not just you.
Apologies, this should be resolved now.

It's fixed now.
I like 3 & 4, but not as much as 1 & 2. I can't put my finger on what I didn't like about part three, but part 4 seemed like it could have been longer.
I liked it, it was very well written and interesting. I'm sorta hoping Part 4 may mean new player races being made available with the intended AC1 expansion.
The only part I didn't like was in Part 2. The dialogue seemed pretty good and then at the end, it dropped into one of those scenes you dread seeing in movies (key the cheesy music and cut between various "let's finally start training and win" clips). I also don't understand why Elysa thought Asheron would be offended by her gratitude... but perhaps I missed something earlier.

I'm really enjoying these. They're very good reading, and I look forward to the ones to come. :)
And they do portend the future - they show that you guys still write solid story like this with skill and detail.

So, story threads up until this point:
His Eternal Splendor becoming involved again.
Nuhmidura just killed Oswald in probably my favorite part of Reawakening thus far.
Aerbax is heading out for a break; in other words, the story thread involving him isn't going to go anywhere for a while, but he can still be used as a convenient reason for new monsters appearing. ;p
Elysa's going to fight against Nuhmidura -- 'tis possible that she'll be the next Big Bad Boss of the upcoming story arc.
The Renegade Tumeroks and Gotrok Lugians are going to find an ally; odds are, it'll be Aerbax's Virindi.
A cult is kidnapping people and turning them slowly into shadows.
Some of the VoD creatures don't like each other -- the Drudges and the Banderlings, primarily.
Nuhmidura still hasn't completed her school in arwic after... a year? Heh.
The undead / falatacot are working to seal the tunnels through which the Olthoi Queen came.
Nuhmidura was involved in stealing crystals from her own crystal-mining operation (As we found out via Whispering Venom quest), though we're not exactly sure why.
The sclavus are up to something where they turn people into Sclavi.
I think I got all the story threads, above? :)
There seems to be a big "humans and animals" theme here. People being turned into Shadows (thought that people became Shadows out of their own madness? I.E. Hamud), people being turned into Sclavi, Nuhmidura mind-melding with the Olthoi, Elysa being "changed" somehow by who-knows-what, etc.

Oswald was killed? Was he now? Seems to me he just kind of drifted away, as smoke rising on the wind. He was still cognizant of what was happening in that state as well. Hmm?

The story is excellent as always, and very drawing. I have only one suggestion/request of you. The stories draw me into them so well, that I wish that I could participate in them, even if for no reward at all. I personally wish I could make choices on allying myself with someone or against someone. I like Elysa, and I like Aerbax. I hate Nummy, and I --->HATE<--- undead. Is it possible for profile characters to make appearances or converse with the common player/give them tasks against thier enemies, and again, for no quest reward. I wish to participate solely for the RP value. The new technologies you have been adding recently lend themselves well to alliances of this sort. I have a great many ideas on how to improve the RP environment of AC, which it has been desperately lacking for some time. With these new improvements, Im glad to see you revitalizing my old love of the game ^_^. Excellent job and keep up the good work!

There was a poll up that was asking what people would think about doing such things, but not guaranteeing that all servers would see equal face time on any given day. The time that characters would be on each server would balance out over time, but, the rigorous development schedule and amount of time that it takes to handle a live-op restrict our ability to handle them across all worlds. So we're still thinking about paying visits and having the encounters comprise a living lore section.

Ah, you got me there. Nobody ever really dies in AC. :) Though I had wished Elysa did, just for purposes of shaking things up.
I dunno, when I read the "smoke rising on the wind" part, I got the feeling of someone who's electrocuted with a high enough voltage and they pretty much turn to ash.
Didn't realize it was meant as a "not really dead" kinda thing.
One other question, Orion, if you can post something... :)
I thought Asheron was supposed to leave Dereth for a while, but then it says he's giving Borelean lessons. How's that work?
Orion

Borelean is a crafty teenager. Asheron left Dereth. Not Auberean. His island is also not quite part of Dereth.

I hope the lore-intense people knew this stuff already or they're going to have stuff oozing out their ears. =P
@e just hopes she eventually gets to see Asheron's island since she was unable to get ingame when that stuff happened. =(

Someone over at CoD posted that this was the best lore since Stormwaltz left. I completely agree; this series was great. Orion, you really showed your talent; you better keep it up :p (not that your other stuff has been bad; this was just the cream of the crop ;))

Thanks for posting these. They really whet my appetite for the next story arch.

I really liked these. It wraps up some of the lose ends from this past storyline and gives us plenty to think about as the festival season draws to a close. There's definitely a firm ground set for whatever story comes next, and this is also drawing people into it. Thanks for doing this, the series is awesome! :)

WOW
Thank you!! These have been great!!
I am hoping by the establishment of Ambassadors to the Council you are hinting that the Main Players of our world will come out and visit with the common people... that the Poll taken has been reviewed and that our Queen and the other individuals will come out to the worlds.. even if we don't all get the same people or the same times...
Very great storyline... I only didn't really understand the Virindi arcs (if someone could help explain who the -Likely- embodiement were with that I'd appreciate it).. but I don't feel too bad... I'm not a being of the Singularity and the whole thought process they go through is foreign to me!
VERY enjoyable, I look forward to more of these!!
Incedentally, I appreciate that the Dev team has taken to using DIFFERENT methods of spreading Lore to us.. through the Comic Style teaser.. this multi part story... .. The HEART of AC's Developer team has been coming through a lot lately--I can't wait for the next 4 years--especially with Turbine captaining her own Ship of Dreams!

I agree with this^^^
It just seems to me that you all have a renewed sense of excitement and desire to see the game grow and tell a great story. Perhaps this has something to do with purchasing the AC franchise rights from MS?! ;)
Keep up the great work guys!
