So, here's the low-down.
Doing the 14-day trial after being gone for over 3 years, running WinXP SP3, using the Thompson Speedtouch 585 (modem is NAT), ISP supports NAT, windows firewall disabled (both AC .exe files are still checked for allowing), computer is set up on a static ip (ISP uses DHCP), port forwarding is complete via THIS (http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Thomson-Alcatel/SpeedTouch585/Asherons_Call.htm), I even went as far as to set up the port forwarding for BOTH types AND for EVERY port 9000-9013 individually, pointed the new port setup to my computer via ip address, tried pointing the userport in the .ini file to a couple of diff. ones between the 9000-9013 range, no anti-virus installed, no adware/spyware installed, uninstalled that "MS Live thingy" some said messed things up with the new windows update, hrmmmmm....let's see....what else....oh, uninstalled/reinstalled AC 14-day trial, tried repairing AC, deleted the .ini file numerous times, tried different servers in AC.
And, I STILL can't get the thing to update!
Some say buying a public IP and/or bridging my modem will probably fix it. I'm not sure why it shouldn't be working if all of the above are true and have been done.
Do I need to worry about changing something different in the .ini file?
I put a ticket into Turbine. And, the response was "does your ISP use NAT or NAPT?" I wrote them back explaining that they really should elaborate on their recommendations (like what to do if the ISP uses one, or the other). And, I explained to them that if I didn't know AC wouldn't run on NAPT it would take forever to communicate with Turbine tech. support this way.
So....whatcha got? Any/all ideas are welcome.
Thanks, all!
