Greetings all,

Another returning player here...

I'm playing around with a mage, with the 5 casting skills trained (nothing is specialized). My intention is to specialize one skill based on the preferences I develop during the first 25 levels. After you complete the skill specialization quest, how is said skill actually modified?

I'm guessing the actual level of the skill stays the same, but is now tied to the specialized rates of advancement, so it takes less exp to raise the skill in the future. The other option is that the skill is treated as if it was specialized at creation.

Thanks for any insight.

I think you might be making it more complicated than it actually is.

You get +5 for a skill to go from untrained to trained. And another +5 for a specialized skill instead of trained. (ie +10 from untrained).

It is also less expensive to raise a specialized skill to an equivalent level and it caps out higher. After the math, a spec'd skill can be +28 higher than a trained skill of the same attributes.

Or for a much, much simpler answer to your overall query:

Spec War.

Here is a nice writeup on the quest on Maggie's site.

I just went through this myself and this page helped me out a lot.

Thanks for the responses. Things must have changed, I don't recall people spec'ing war way back when, but I just saw that recommendation on the ACC Wiki site as well. My guy is running around blasting stuff and having a ball!
