black screen after I pick a server

ok so i had that 0x800 whatever problem and i was told to download service pack 2.
so i downloaded service pack 2 and it let me past the first update.
now i pick my server and it fullscreens into a black screen with a spinning wheel.
When i open task manager it says its not responding

Could be connection but may be graphics/sound related too. Firstly if your running third party plugins try disabling those, then I'd check the "Documents" > "Asheron's Call" folder for a userpreferences.ini file and if one is listed try renaming it (eg. olduserpreferences.ini) and relaunching AC.
