Just a little background. The last time I played Atlan weapons were the best you could get and Sword of the Lost Light (i think that was the name) was hard to get....ah the memories. Anyways I'm looking to start a new account and have no clue what build to go. I'm interested in bow/tank template but have no clue what my stats/skills should be or if it's even a good build these days.
I'll be on later tonight if I can get these updates to work, finally got the update going last night after dealing with my router issues. Anyone interested in a new vassel? I haven't chose a server yet so I'm open to suggestions. :)

I'm on WE, and I'm always looking for a new vassal. :-) We've got a pretty active allegiance, have recently had 6-7 on at the same time at night. If you are interested, post here, PM, or message me in game...I'm usually playing Erland Davidson.
As to the archer/tank, not much has changed stat wise there I don't think. Coord and quickness will be a must, as coord is your primary archery stat and quickness and coord make up your melee defense. I'd spec melee defense and bow of course. Beyond that it depends on if you want to self buff or us bots, etc etc. If you need anything, let me know.
BTW, Welcome back! LOL!

Make sure you check out the Wiki (link in my sig)... SoLL just got an upgrade also, which I hear is very nice. Wiki is in my sig. FF is most active white server and DT is probably most active server of all. Just make sure to have fun!

Thanks for the advice.
-Jaclin, looking at your sig how do you like the tank archer build? The main thing I'm looking for is to be able to solo without having to rely on buff bots. Also, how hard is ammo to get and would fletching be worth taking up?

The are a few sellers in MP that have arrows made usually, but not always. I'd recommend taking fletching personally, at least on an alt if not on your main. Same goes with alchemy for your oils. If you aren't going to use buff bots, then you need to learn life/item/critter magic as well. As an archer you can sacrifice some strength to put into self and focus to help those skills.

For at least the first few lvls I plan to use buff bots but dont want to rely on them when I get higher up. Maybe a box/mage build would work better instead of tank/archer. As for having an alt to use as a crafter is there a way to transfer items between chars other then dropping on the ground and logging in on the other char?

Fletching will let you carry more arrows/bolts than normal because arrow heads and shafts weigh less than pre-made arrows. Also you really need to make your own alchemist when it comes to making deadly arrows and whatnot. I'm sure that in the end buying arrows would become extremely expensive, and I've almost never seen them pre-made on bots. They are usually just the arrow heads so you would still need fletching.

Get a house/apartment and you can use the chests/space there to transfer items. Or have someone you trust hold them for you as you change characters. However, considering the somewhat lack of players in AC at the moment, finding a nice secluded place to drop stuff is a lot safer than it would have been years ago.

After looking around I think I'll go with a life/archer build. I'll probably start out a melee guy too just to see which one I like.
Also what about plugins. I've looked at the huge list on the wiki but which ones are worth using?
Thanks again for everyones help!

Keep in mind that we have temples you can go to in order to untrain and specialize skills. If you end up going tank-bow, and decide "Hey, I really miss my sword guy," you can switch with a bit of effort/time.

What Heideggar said, you can always change around. Personally as life archer or tank archer you really need fletching. I have grenades so I also have alch which makes it very easy for me to make my own heads and fletch in the field. I just recently changed around and dropped alch to trained since I was able to maxe the skill. I also dropped magicD down to trained which allowed me at level 220ish (I can't remember what I am today) to have
Spec Bow/MeleeD
Train Alch/LP/Arcane/Life/Critter/Item/ManaC
Now I can go anywyere, buff anytime, and when I need high level vuln/imperils I just bring out a grenade which at highest tier is a 500 spell craft. Much higher that I could get in life ever and I can throw behind a shield if I wanted. I am sho and also maxed trained in UA but I never use it.
starting stats are 10/10/100/100/100/10 though I need to start auging up something after I finish with my two hour buffs. I think I have one more aug for full two hour.
Down side... I will never be able to cast level 8s and I probably won't be that uber. I wish I would have had dagger instead of Sho for UA. Unless I want to aug up Strength. I can't pull anything out of focus else I can't wield top tier grenades. and I love my MeleeD to much to mess with it :-)
It is much easier to level with meleeD if you want to race into the 100+ range. If you want to take yoru time, life mage is probably more versital as a hunter/quester.

Plugins i would recommend are
Alinco3 alpha from http://www.rindi.nl/alinco/ < some info
http://alinco3.codeplex.com/ <<< most recent version download.
That will cover buffing and item/monster detection aswell as salvaging.
Another good one is: Go Arrow, this one will help you navigate your way around dereth is a fast and effienct way.
MouseWheel - not alot of options but if you like to use your mouse wheel, this will provide some functionality.
QuestTimer - a must have addon for keeping track of all your quest timers. this should be incorperated into the client and i belief "something" like this is in the works for the 10year anniversary.
VirindiChatBugFix - if you experience failure to log into the public chat channels still is very much a "must have".
VirindiFollower - optional, will auto-follow another player. can be helpfull when u need a quick afk while on a quest run.
Another popular plugin is LifetankX, i do not recommend it, but if you want to acm/ucm this is your only option.

I love the AC community! It's good to see this much help in the newbie forum.
Is there a difference between lifetank and virinditank? I dont plan on doing much acm but being able to do laundry/homework/etc while playing would be nice.
I'm used to not being able to drop/add skills and stats so that will be a nice change.
Thanks again for all the help. I'm at work right now, I can't wait to get home and start playing :P

It's rather frowned upon to discuss any help concerning 3rd party apps that can potentially cause you to break the CoC. You'll need to look into them more yourself, or find another medium to discuss them than these forums.
Virindi Tank is better unless you like crashing. If you like crashing then first of all get yourself checked out then install lifetank.
In other words go with Virindi Tank lol.

are you frowning upon me? LOL
By not talking about something here it doesnt go away heideggar, i simple listed some of the popular plugin's and what there are used for, like it or not LifeTank IS a popular addon, i said it is used for ACM/UCM becouse otherwise someone might tell him thats what they use for buffing/loot finding, it does that but clearly there are beter options for those who do not wish to macro.

Just remember that UCM is against the COC and you will get banned for doing so.

So I've read. ;)
Are there any active forums outside of these? I used to look on ACvault but they seem to have slowed down alot....and pretty much any AC website I used to go to.

vn still has some active forums... VT is made for ACM and a very good product. I would highly recommend it. I does not have the UCM features built into it at all. LTx is used for ACM as well as UCM.
