Some additional information would be nice on the expansion and new server plans....

Just like normal....we get a hand full of seeds and expected to see a tree.....but it usally ends up just a bush....

I mean you don't have to give spoilers but stating we added a new island isn't tipping the cards....or adding 5 new critters ranging from level 10-100 isn't tipping the cards.....

As for the Cost: TBA? I hope its reasonable....and If it's not....

What exactly will happen to those that choose not to invest any more money than the monthly subscription?

See this is what I love about Turbine, they are a great bunch of people. I never really complained at all about the last couple months, things have being rough, but hey we all have to suffer even Turbine of course. And this coming month and the next month seem so amazing to me, it just makes me want to play AC alot more. Just for this, I'm getting two more people to sign up to play this game.

Anyways my comments, I'm just so pumped because today is an awesome day for me, the April Event seems great, the new rainment is going to be cool and I cannot wait to grab that since I was just talking about wanting one last night. Also the 6th character slot is kick ***! I can create another so I can have 6 instead of 5, which makes my character possibilities even better!

An extra character slot would be great. I've wanted to start a newbie for some time, but was unwilling to sacrifice any of my current characters. Thanks!

Resource/Land control in the expansion sounds....interesting. As a casual player who's online less than 10 hours a week and in a small allegiance, it has little draw to me. Without knowing more details, my one concern is that it yet again puts those without the ability to devote significant time to the game at a substantial disadvantage. I've finally been able to accrue enough tinked items to feel like I've almost "caught up" to the general curve at high levels. It would be disheartening to see future content at higher levels be excalated further out of reach because of increasing skills and abilities granted the vocal 150+ levels. I understand that these folks are often important to the community of AC. But as a devoted player of almost 4 years, supporting 3 accounts I would like to think that my playstyle and hopes for the future of AC have relevance too.

As you undoubtedly know, you guys are going to have to walk a fine line between keeping newbs (the non-powerleveling kind) and casual players interested if future development further estranges them from the current storyline content. Most of my frustration over the years with AC has been that significant story-related content happens so quickly, or is available to such restricted (and often unrealistic) level ranges that I've missed out on it all except for doing the adjusted quests in following months. This has improved in recent months, and I hope it continues.

Sounds good for now. I'd like more details on the expansion pack though - especially system requirements.

I know that in the news release it stated that low-end systems would still be able to run AC, might this be just the AC;DM portion, the content added, or the expansion pack (read graphics upgrade) too? Additionally, define low-end systems. I currently run AC on a P3-550 system, with the graphics upgrade I expect (hopefully incorrectly) that the low-end will jump to at least that necessary to run AC2, or a 733MHz processor. I am not optimistic that I will be upgrading my AC system to that level any time soon, if at all, and do not expect to be purchasing a new system to run AC either.

In order for me to be able to justify continuing with AC and paying the monthly subscription rates (especially after the price increase), I would like to be able to run the expansion pack on my current system with out upgrades. It would be nice to be able to make my decision now rather than forking out the $17.00CDN per month for the next 8? 9? 10? months to find out at the expansion pack release time I can not run it.

This is awesome news! I agree new slot much > more storage (24x7 (or 168) + 105ish = 273 slots Vs Maybe 75ish per chest with pack?) and you have the option of also making a playable char! (chests make lousy archers ;) )

There is a new server board accessable from acvault homepage with an awesome FAQ. According to information gleaned from turbine posts accumilated there - new server will be white (though next one - if there is one will be red) and timeline will be in sync with current servers (no starting from 11/99 story line).

Ok probably not a popular idea but:

Consider holding off on the 6th slot until the Exp pack is released? I guess you can't now that it is announced. IMHO it might have been better to hold off, as to encourage current players to reroll and thus more likely to interact with newbies.

Another thing, with 6 chars per old account, Rank is going to be even easier to X-server trade for. Perhaps rank needs an overhaul?

Great news all around, :) however I would like to make some suggestions about the expansion:

I hope it's not just a cosmetic change with some PvP thrown in. This game desperately needs some new character options. New skills! New spells! New abilities for existing characters. Give us more choices, because I believe this is the part of the game that has become the most stagnant. How about giving tinker skills the ability to construct weapons and armor from scratch? How about new spells to root or charm monsters.

Character graphics especially should improve - you've made lots of great new models already, but our characters still look like angular wooden puppets in comparison. Increase the polygon count, not just the texture detail.

I also hope you won't pass up potential graphical upgrades for the sake of a few people who haven't upgraded their computers in five years. I'm not advising jumping to AC2 levels, but use the technology available to most players today and in the past year or two at the most. Perhaps you can make some of these new graphics features optional, so that people with slow machines can turn them off. At least make it look better than Everquest :D

Couple questions:

Assuming that Turbine takes over billing by the time the expansion is released, would it be possible to enable current subscribers to simply upgrade as a one-time extra charge to their subscription? (Optional of course) That would make it a lot easier on some of us who live/go to college out in the middle of nowhere and would have a bit of trouble getting a hold of the expansion pack.

Also, while I like the idea of items that are only available to players who were playing at date x, making them tradeable kind of detracts from that, as new players can obtain items that are MUCH older than they are. Inscriptions used to be a way to prevent newer players using old items like energy crystals as personal status symbols, as everyone would then know who REALLY was old enough to have an energy crystal, but now that Envoys uninscribe...

An idea I had after the announcement of raiment follows along the idea of the Bandit Hilt. Perhaps as a way of rewarding players, you could create a sort of bandit hilt quest available whenever you want to reward players for sticking with the game, but different:
Instead of hilting a dagger/sword, you would 'hilt' a suit of loot-gen armour. This would cause the armour to change in appearance to look like the special flavour being offered, but still have the exact same stats, except now being wearable only by that player?
It would likely require some new tech if each character can only alter one such suit, as a full suit of armour can range from 5 (amuli plus extremities) to 9 (Covenant) pieces. Obviously, the quest would need to keep track of which body parts you have already turned in pieces to cover.


All in all though, I really, truly, LOVE everything in the announcement, and while I lost a lot of faith back when the treasure changes started, I have since adapted and found new faith in the Live Team and AC in general, and this just reinforces that.

6th character is nice, but I'd hate to have another mule that ends up causing me not to play your game. Always a concern of mine.

Gifts are nice, but what's nicer is being able to play completed content you guys put in. Gifts are nice in that they remind people you're thinking about them, and that they're in your thoughts, but I like doing stuff, and gifts that I can actually USE irl (of fake life) are MUCH better.

I like pack dolls, but please, no pack dolls lol.

Srand is a company treasure. Keep her happy, keep her working on sensitive areas and the hard stuff. Feed her junk food and rub her feet. Good move.

Orion needs a bit of work. Here's a hint: Long run time and long distance do not make a good quest. I've never felt more like a rat in a maze than in the "epic" gaerlan quest. Also one of the most buggy quests ever. How many patches were rolled out for that one? His writing is getting better.

Overall, I think that I will be coming back from SWG to AC more and more as new content and features are rolled out. I am glad I kept my two accounts up now, and look forward to an influx of noobs again. My allegiance was very new-player oriented. It's been a long dry season for us.

As far as the expansion pack goes, sounds great so far. And for all those that still think the Elder Games is for pk/l only, The Dev Tracker (http://ac.turbinegames.com/devtracker) is your friend. I think there were 10 posts by IBN stating that this was not the case. I wonder if IBN has any hair left after today :p

A New World
I hope that all those heading over to the new world find what it is they are looking for. I remember well over a year ago starting over on a new server. Doing things the old way. No buffbots, no pling just fighting in armor that you looted or baught. In the end, I wanted my power back. It satisfied my cravings for a while. I also hope that the reason for the server also accomplishes its goal.

Personally, I wouldn't have given the 6th character slot to the ones that unsubscribed, because they "technically" did not stick with you. In fact, my opinion is they bailed on you when you needed them the most. But it is just my opinion, and you guys are much nicer than I am :)

For the most part, you guys are awesome. You won't have to worry about me shifting to a new game. World of Warcraft of lost its intrest to me with the lack of communication and customer support they provide. I would rather stick with a team that's here for us. I think you guys need to do a little better at prioritizing (sp) but you still do waaaaaaaaaay better than most MMORPG's.

Although the forum trolls will tell you otherwise, the new proposed changes are great news to me. I think the name of the new world is lovely. I am excited about the new slots. I have to make choices all the time, of what kind of characters I get to build on each world. You have broadened the horizons for me. Now I do not have to choose between a sword guy or an axe melee'er, I can have both. I deeply appreciate the gift, and will chesrish it. I absolutely love the charts you have been putting in the change letters. I printed up the vendor chart so I could make sense of the changes when I buy and sell in the game. I am sooooo looking forward to the casting changes. I really hope you guys will let us have a one spell item buff for each damage instead of the multiple casting thing now. 8 spells times 5+ items = Well, you get the picture. You spend a lot of time casting the same spells over and over again. I am curious as to what the latest fashion in the uber chararacter armor is going to be. You have some talented guys on the team, so I know it is gonna look fabulous. I loved Ulgrim's Bathrobe quest. I really really like the robe. I dyed mine white, and it is absolutely beautiful. I wish I could wear my Bunny slippers with it, but you are right. As it is, it is viable armor for a smallish mage who can buff it up. With bunny slippers, it would take another set of spells to actually be able to hunt in it. (see comment above)
I don't mind the treasure changes much, but then I play mostly smallish characters, so It didn't affect me as badly as otherbig guys were hit. I only have one other request. I am not sure what you mean by target player levels. Could you please be a little more enlighteneing? Is a level 3 treasure monster, like a level 70 Ravener? Regarding the 6th character slot, one note. If you do not have an existing character on a world before the June event, you will not get the 6th character slot on that world. This is due to the tech we're using to create this character slot.

We'll be posting this info frequently as the June event approaches.

Verdantine will be opening in May, the 6th character slot is coming in June. You'll be able to get the 6th slot on VT.

This is great news! I am intrigued by the prospect of starting fresh on a new world. Keep up the great work, Turbine.

One little thing though: is there any possibility that you might consider restoring at least a small measure of the vassal-to-grandpatron xp passup? That would certainly go a long way to supporting the solo players' ability to level their own tinkers and trademules.

I realize that vassal-to-patron has actually been increased, but that setup requires one to play 2 accounts indefinitely. Six active characters are really enough for me, I just don't have the time to commit to leveling tinkers and trademules individually and I prefer to use inactive intermediaries on the second account.

Is there any hope for the solo player? Thanks for any response in advance.

To get the 6th character slot, does the account have to be active? My secondary account has been inactive for several months, do I need to activate it to ensure I get the sixth slot on it?

It does not have to be active, you just need to have a character on a specific world to get the 6th slot on that world.

The changes are great! I can't wait for the new world and the sixth slot. Way cool!

One question though, for a garment that has NO magics on it at all, the raiment has a high bu when compared to similar two piece clothing in the game. At the risk of seeming ungrateful for a gift, did you have to make it so heavy? Lighten up, Turbine. :D

That is correct. If you have characters on every world but Leafcull, you will get a 6th character slot on every world but Leafcull.

So it is in your best interests to create a character on any world that you don't already have one.

You will get people rushing in now. Isn't that a bit of a brash ting. WIll this not lead to a bit more of cross server rank trading?

An extra character slot is greatly welcomed, much better than a kick in the teeth by any measure.

May I ask, in rough estimation, what proportion of people have characters on different servers? I for one find that one server is quite enough to be getting on with. ( That is there isn't enough time to interact with all the servers and still keep freinds on them all )

Actually, a lot of people have characters on multiple accounts. I'd say most only play 1 or 2 servers, but it's always nice to have rank mules, which you get from cross-server trades.
