View Full Version : CONTEST: Do YOU know who Aerbax's mirror is?
As Aerbax has continued his awful experiments on the creatures of Dereth, it has been revealed that there is someone -- or something assisting him. He's referred to this entity as his mirror.
In the Reawakening (http://ac.turbinegames.com/index.php?page_id=143) series of stories, we see this mirror in person for the first time. But the question remains -- who or what is the mirror?
We planned on revealing its true identity soon, but then we wondered... perhaps one of you out there has guessed?
So here's the deal:
In this thread, post your answer to the following question:
Who or what is Aerbax's mirror?
One guess per person.
The winner will be randomly selected from correct answers, and will receive a bit of Turbine swag.
The thread closes at 9PM EST on Tuesday 1/6/04 -- that's right, you only get a day to come up with your answer.
If there is no correct answer by 9PM EST Tuesday, the contest will continue.
Good luck!

Ler Rhan is my Answer.
Ler Rhan is BZ's PK General whom disappeared after BZ was Beaten.
The Singularity Caul rightfully belongs to BZ. In the reawakening part VI the voice mentions returning the Caul back to the way it was before. The Virindi Dominte it now. Ler Rhan is makin it BZ's home once again. I believe that Ler Rhan is going to attempt to Ressurect BZ also but that's just a shot in the dark. He did it once he can do it again.
In other words he is getting the house ready for his master =).

I will have to venture a guess and say Jhirvall as well. I believe it would be the best guess for a few reasons. One: I'm almost certain this aid to the virindi is not Isin Dule for the fact that he aided Asheron and the Isparians on a few occasions (weakening of the Fenmalain Vestibule, and helped him find Heart of the Shadow. Good old Isin was then exiled from the shadows, so basically i don't think he would want to help them now. Two:Ler Rhan, another general of BZ, played a small role in the release of BZ from his crystal cage...then he mesteriously disapears afterwards...would be a good choice to help the virindi but i dont think he would be the best. Three: Black Ferah still lives but holds virgil over BZ's banished remains, so really think she is stuck with him for now. Four: The Kemeroi, or The Nameless as Asheron called them turned Illservian Palacost into BZ...but I'm pretty sure they aren't single entity so there goes that idea. Five: Before BZ defeat he told Jhirvall that "he still has the gift" and then hides Jhirvall or something because that is the last we hear of him, probably because he is BZ's "insurance". Anywho i have rambled on long enough and my lore may be a bit rusty, if there are any flaws in my little essay here please don't hesitate to tell me...no flames though please.

So the main choices I've seen have been Talaagran, Jhirvall, Isin Dule, Ler Rhan, Candeth Martine, Caerlin, and Black Ferah.
Talaagran was transformed into a Marionette.
I don't think it could be Jhirvall, partially because the figure being described seems to be a Shadow.
Isin Dule was a traitor to Bael'zharon, I'm not sure why he would want to return Singularity Cauln to it's former state.
Ler Rhan is a reasonable choice, being one of the only two loyal Shadow Generals of Bael'zharon that is still alive. Also, Ler Rhan has been missing, so much could have been accomplished.
Candeth's whereabouts are unknown. Is it possible that he could have made his way back to Dereth and be in league the Virindi? Doubtfully.
Caerlin died.
Ferah continously stands guard at the remains of the human form of Bael'zharon, Ilservian Palacost. While Ferah is loyal, I don't believe this is her.
I think Ler Rhan would be the most logical choice. It could be someone else, but I think Ler Rhan is the only person with a background that may point them to this.

Isin Dule - Seems with the recent changes to the VoD and others, it would stand to reason a shadow is working in league with Aerbax. Isin Dule felt that Illservain Palatcost betrayed the kemeroi which is why he seemingly "betrayed" Bhael'zharon. I think Dule is trying to accomplish what he feels Palatcost failed to do.
But I could (and probably am) wrong

Well, most likely it's one of the shadows we've already met, but everyone else is guessing those so I'm going to be a little different ^_~
I think the mirror is a shadow twisted version of Aerbax - We know the shadows are people who have been corrupted, and the 'energy source' aerbax has been playing with seems like it's a source of that chaotic energy. I've been thinking since we first heard of it that mixing a virindi, which is near to pure order, with shadow energy, nearly pure chaos, can't be a good thing - Perhaps the two were so incompatable that they split into seperate beings, with aerbax remaining in control of himself (Rather than becoming like a shadow in the thrall of whoever the 'Master' is), and the mirror becoming the shadow version serving the 'master'.
Of course, there are holes in it, mainly that this didn't happen to any of the other virindi exposed to the energy source and also that none of the creatures exposed seem to serve the shadows - But then aerbax probably had a lot more exposure, and he's very powerful... Who knows ^_^
So, yes, shadow serving and corrupted version of Aerbax, that's my guess ^_~

Interesting choice vellus. I think you may actually have a good choice their. I wouldn't be surprised at all if that were true. I actually thought about Geraine's involvement, but I kind of tossed it out because no one else mentioned it. Though Geraine is an Undead and not a Shadow, it's possible. It will be interesting to see what happends. :)

Hmm....after giving this a fair amount of though, I will have to go with the majority on this - Ler Rhan, and perhaps I should have. It seems clear to me, though this could be deceptive, that it IS a shadow of some sort. I'd originally been considering Bael'Zharon - his mortal form was destroyed by the Virindi-Human-Shadow-Undead Alliance's efforts, but his twisted spirit lived on. The one thing that stays me from concluding this, is that there is no evidence that Aerbax is of the level of the darkness which helped to create the Hopeslayer, and that is the only thing I can see Bael'Zharon calling master. Most significantly to my mind, however - is that Aerbax was called...perhaps by the same darkness that created Bael'Zharon in the first place.
I'm not certain that Ler Rhan is the echo, but that is my guess. Dule would not have called him master whom he once called Brother.

I would actually guess Ler Rhan but for the same reason you said Vellus... Based on what was said it sounds like Ler Rhan is setting up for the return of the hopeslayer. Now it's quite possible he's working with Geraine, either knowingly or unknowingly but, I still think it's the shadow himself.

I'm going to have to go with the minority and say that it's Oswald... Reading through all the stuff seems to indicate that he's transformed into some kind of shadow figure. Okay.... Am I wrong or doesn't this seem like Oswald is dead?
“I’m the best at–” His words were cut short as a bolt of energy washed over him, through him, and tore his being asunder. As he began to drift away as smoke rising on the wind, he saw the Nuhmudira that he had killed sizzle and melt into the floor.
“No, Oswald…I am.” Nuhmudira’s hand clutched the wound at her neck as she walked to the illusion she had created. It drifted away to nothing as she closed the wounds on her neck, arm, back and chest.
^^Definately seems like she destroyed him utterly and unless he as part shadow can use a lifestone, he's toast.

I'm going to go with Isin Dule here.
Isin Dule seemed to be a bit jealous of the Hopeslayer title. He could be trying to clear out Caul and bring back the shadows so he can be the next Hopeslayer. As far as the comment about Aerbax being gone as his master before him. I think that Dule has disposed of Aerbax (or has him imprisoned) and says this to mock Bael'Zharon. Dule used Aerbax to clear out the island and now Aerbax's usefulness is done.
I don't think this could be Ler Rahn because Ler Rahn does not represent a "mirror" of Aerbax. Aerbax rebelled against the Singularity as Isin Dule rebelled against Bael'Zharon. Also, I do not see why Ler Rahn would treat Aerbax as his equal or better, the generals are far more powerful.
I believe that Dule, however, will realize in doing this that he cannot control the power he wishes to have.

As many of you guessed correctly, Aerbax's mirror is none other than:
LER RHAN
One of the Hopeslayer's original five companions, this Shadow stayed mostly out of the limelight during the Fourth Sending. Now, for whatever reason, he appears to have aided Aerbax in the Virindi's experiments. With Aerbax apparently elsewhere, what will Ler Rhan do with the beasts that he and Aerbax have created?
There were LOTS of correct guesses, but a random drawing has chosen the winner from all of those who answered correctly.
And the winner is:
