View Full Version : Video Card Driver Issue affecting Mouse

Hi folks;

Here is my tale of woe. i recently (post April Patch) updated my video drivers for my NVidia GeForce 4 Ti 4400 to the most recent version. I have a P3 1.3GHZ with 640 MB RAM. I use a Logitech Optical Mouse. OS is WIN 98SE. Since I did this update I find AC to be basically unplayable.

Sypmtoms are a freezing of the mouse cursor. Whenever I am in-game and click on or ID anything the mouse freezes on the item and will not move unless I hit the ESC key. I also find the frame refresh rate to be somewhat choppy.

Obviously I am having a problem and the fact that AC ran great prior to the video driver update leads me to believe that the video driver is the issue. However, I cannot revert to my prior driver because other (newer) programs require some of the bells and whistles the newer driver delivers.

Z-Buffering is not turned on for AC....and turning it on had no effect.

So my question is: How can I fix this? Is\Are there certain settings I can make in the OS to fix this so I can play AC again?

Any thoughts\suggestions are appreciated!

Just one question. Are you running your OS in 32 bit color? AC can not run in 32 bit , atleast i found out the hard way when i updated drivers. I could see my inventory but play screen was black and i had no paperdoll either , but after i returned to 16 bit no problems. Hope it can help.

Nope. 16 Bit color only......still hoping for some input :)

I had a similar problem after I installed a new (ATI) video card and changed my screen resolution -- eventually discovered it was because my refresh rate was set incorrectly. Try tweaking your video refresh rate and see if that helps.

heya, might try new mouse drivers also. Nvidia seems to neglect cohabitating with mousies.

Possible driver corruption.

Completely unistall all video card drivers (and registry) and re-install them once again.

Many people have these problems because they do not completely uninstall everything.

Oh, and another thing:

Avoid downloading new drivers unless the old ones do not work. ;)

I'll give that a try CLoud.....and believe me, I KNOW not to screw with drivers unless you absolutely HAVE to. In this case I do HAVE TO....the game I want to play required the newer drivers, else I would never put myself into this position.

I will try new mouse drivers as well......

Updated status.

Reinstalled clean set of video drives. No change.
Installed updated mouse drivers. No change.

Has any Dev seen anything like this? Please comment.

Thanks in advance.....

Three options
1) Get Windows XP
2) Get back to an nvidia driver older than 40.xx. I know, lots of new games will stop working.
3) play AC in software mode. It will look as if it was coded in the late 70s but it will run.
