View Full Version : Turbine Nation Swag?
Ah, spring is in the air, and you know what that means… time to start thinking about this year’s player convention! Planning for the annual gathering, newly dubbed Turbine Nation 2004 (http://forums.turbinegames.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7400), is underway. And this year, we are planning a party of special magnificence.
Turbine has always valued the feedback and participation of our player base. We’d like to hear from you guys now, as we plan this year’s event. As Asheron’s Call players, what do YOU want to see at Turbine Nation 2004? What events? What activities? What sort of SWAG - posters, t-shirts, something else? This is serious stuff!
This question is completely open, feel free to post whatever craziness you’ve always wanted to see in the past at our player conventions. Of course, we can’t guarantee anything (a full suit of replica Greater Shadow Armor? well, maybe...), but we value your ideas and want to hear them. What from past years did you most enjoy and want to see again? What are you really hoping to see new for this year? Let us know!

Get the Beany Baby company to make some "Plush". The same ones that are in the game. Also create a mechanism (coupon code) so people who attend can get a featherd Boa or some other clothing on their toon. That would be cool to be able to see in game who was there.
I'm sure you are planning to have rooms with networked PCs so people can quest and such together.
How about having staff (Designers) log in and lead a quest or two?

Entry into our choice of betas: MEO or D&DO. And if you want to charge me an extra $25 for the privilege, that's cool. :)
Here are some additional things we're thinking of... what would you say to posters of artwork? Comic books -- like a printed copy of the Reign of Terror comic? Teasers or lore pieces in printed book form? Pin the tail on the Developer games?
Include your thoughts and how much you’d be willing to pay for the items that you suggest! No guarantees on any of these of course, right now we're just brainstorming.
We're VERY excited about Turbine Nation and the ACPL this summer. We look forward to seeing you there!

I loved the plush tuskers from last year, be nice to see something like that. I like posters and comic book idea.
Hmm, maybe a CD of original AC music.
One thing to remember above is price, keep it reasonable in whatever you do or have tiers.

I plan to bring my Soul Staff and working on a Serpent's fang to give away lol :D
Saddly I wasn't able to go last year and the Pewart Lugian's looked nice lol..
Artwork is nice, you've done Lugian, monkey.. I would like to see something olthoi or maybe virindi like :p
And I did enjoy how you opened with the video in 2001 for AC for the teaser video thing. But maybe another video would be nice, even the one that was posted on AC Vault would be nice to open with or just something as good or even better than that.
Got to always try to beat your previous years.
The only thing I am concered about is how it will be for all games, and curious how that will work, because I know some people that play ac didn't want to sit through too much AC2 stuff, and vise versa :p And I am coming for the AC1 stuff..

A collection of all the Teaser movies on a collector's disk.
AC Backpacks with Olthoi on the back
Lifestone charms that you can wear as a pendant or hang from your car mirror or whatever!
VIRINDI CHRISTMAS LIGHTS!!!
It would be really neat if we could get engravable weapons.
And I need AC stickers for my computer ;)

Pack Dolls! :D Actually make the pack dolls we have in game into real things. Maybe make some shards from the game into some kind of jewelry or somthing? Or make some weapons/wands/armor from in game to give out. (I would like to have an Ixir's Staff of Eyes and an Ancient armored vestment. ) Oh, I like the Reign of Terror actual comic book idea and actual lore books. And music from the Teaser movies wouldn't be bad...

Tusker packs, bandie packs, pyreal coins (not plastic), Tapers =), some iron scarabs (can't have the kiddies nibblen lead =)), masks of all types, Oolutanga's hat, minis of all the critters of AC but if only a few at least the queen and some bugs.
what would I spend? all the money I had. so I'll have to skip it this year and maybe hit the place with a 1000+ bucks for swag if I'm still playing AC.

I can say with 99.9% certainty that I will be there. I really like the idea of stuff like posters (poster-size world maps of Dereth, maybe AC1 and 2 on opposite sides), stickers (olthoi crossing), I can never have too many t-shirts. Of course beta accounts for MEO or D&DO would be sweet... if either is going to be available by then.
In-game items would be awesome, it doesn't even have to be something useful, just something that you can only get by attending a "Turbine Nation" event. If that's possible, which I doubt, but worth mentioning.
I would really like a DVD or something of all the Vault story sequences from AC2, I dunno if that's something that could be made possible, but I for one would love it.
Door prizes are always fun, video cards, various items from the turbine shop, free accounts, these are all things I'd love to win.
As far as events go, y'all manage to entertain me about 100 hours a month, I'm sure you won't have trouble thinking up how to do it for 6 or 8 hours =)

Nametags! Would have been nice last year to know who I was sitting next to =) Maybe color coded by world.
An ingame item would be the best... maybe have attendees give you their main character name and world... an NPC could then be linked to a database of these names and hand that toon something when you speak to them.
Not sure how difficult and time consuming that would be, but it sure would be cool!

Useful stuff...stuff I can take back with me and get functionality out of...like the Ulgrim's Casting Stein, that's a good one! Worth a good $20 or $30 to me.
I think you should produce a tonne of AC:DM CDs, too, aka AOL...but without CARAC codes, or whatever will be the equiv in the future; I could get a lot more friends into it if they didn't have the dload, and I'm always nervous about burning CDs with software on them that's not my own...perhaps a dollar off their $12.95 when they activate? Or not.... :)
I'm sad about the choice of location, though. Got lots of friends in Boston to crash with for it; who the heck knows anyone in Rhode Island...and those people from that show aren't there in Providence, either! <edited, found a reference>
But, back to the swagbag...um, how about a little address book with all the pager and home numbers of the current Dev team? :) Boy, THAT would be fun! :) I'll pay lots and lots and lots for that! :)
OOOH! I want bunny slippers! Anna rabbit pie! :) The latter can be non-edible, of course. But the former should look JUST like 'em. :) And Official (tm) eeps. :)
So, fundamentally, useful things:
- hats
- mugs
- foodstuffs
- keychains? eh.
Backpacks! :) Especially tusker ones :) Clean, of course. :)
S'about it from my mind. :)
Oh, and I second the votes on purchaseable CD/DVDS with all the promo/animation, and/or musical selections. I'd love a full CD of lore read by srand and devilmouse. :) Or anyone interested in doing voices. :)

I would like to see something for us Canadians or others who are not in the States!! :D
Everything that people have suggested so far, like the Beer Stein and the plush critters, real metal coins, tapers, scarabs, are awesome ideas! I further think anything made available for sale at the convention should be made for sale to those who do not have the ability to attend! Put it on the sales site!!
I would absolutely die for a LS pendant necklace!! Or a crystal shard, or scintilating gem...oooooh even shadow poop!! black crystals!! oooh :D
sorry got carried away , started drooling. You get the picture!!

I'm a Canadian! It's not far to go, it'll just be way too expensive to STAY there. Need BIG URBAN areas, with lots of cheap housing. Not some stoopid island full of tourists and rich fancy people! (again, see the TV show.... :)

Dude, that's dangerous. I'd end up at Spike's Junkyard Dogs and totally miss the entire event!
"I'm sad about the choice of location, though. Got lots of friends in Boston to crash with for it; who the heck knows anyone in Rhode Island"
I'm thrilled with the choice of location. My family is in Rhody and I haven't seen them in 2 years. Now it won't be a matter of "Do I go see them later or do I miss the convention?" Besides, Providence rocks. It's such a beautiful city.

I would be delighted if you'd have the Convention someplace other than the Southern USA. How about Toronto, Canada :)
Otherwise I'd suggest getting some of the DEVS to log on and play so that those of us who are unable to attend might be able to see them in game.

I'm from Timmins, Ontario, and I plan on joining this years ACPL.

Id like to see someone with a high quality DV cam walk around and interview players and Devs, and just stream it over the net so people EVERYWHERE can at least watch it. If the bandwidth was secured early (had that problem last year at Sheraton if I remember correctly) it would be awesome. It would have to be voice and video... Like a WinAmp channel or something...
I dunno, I'm prolly going again this year, simply to see more of MEO/DDO stuff. Looked excellent last year.
WAIT! I wanna be the guy walking around interviewing!!!
This would be awesome! VOTE FOR IT PEOPLE! YOu can watch it from ANYWHERE then!

I saw a notice on Maggie's site about this thread, and came to check it out. I attended the very first player gathering -- in Minneapolis -- and the last three.
Activities I'd like to see:
* Whose Drudge is it, with something DECENT as a prize.
* A presentation of brief "I remember" items from players recalling early player gatherings or early years of AC. "I remember the first time I saw the hardware-accelerated game..." etc.
* Another opportunity to record our voices for future Turbine content.
* Some DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION contests, with T-shirt prizes. Maybe a combination of DDR contest and shot-drinking competition?
* More Jessica. Fewer panel presentations.
* Fewer things that I am not invited to. Last year I had to miss certain activities, because I wasn't invited; I threw a tantrum, which felt good, but annoyed my companion.
* Lore contest: but there's a gimmick: there's a lore question, with one correct answer and 2 made-up answers. The contestants must pick the non-fake answer. Wrong answers are often hilariously funny. But sometimes the seemingly wrong answer is the right answer, get it?
SWAG
* More cool stuff from Sue-Anne in the swag bags. Maybe a Sue-Anne crafted replica paperweight for my desk, showing the ALLOY MACHINE.
* T-shirt sizes XXL and XXXL. I've been putting on some weight, and need 'em bigger than last year.
* Fewer but larger posters. I want mine 3x4 feet! Or as close to that as possible. Big posters. 2x3 feet minimum.
* Coupons for free food at area restaurants. Nice restaurants.
* Boat trip
* Vans, to take bunches of us to a preselected movie one evening. Movie should be amazing and awful.
* Full size replica of my BOW, suitable for mounting on my wall.
* In-game Painting of any of several Player Gathering//Turbine Nation '04 images. Jessica, Line of boring devs sitting on chairs, Painting of ourselves, from digital image, etc. I'd like a painting of my own likeness for my house, showing me with fully drawn bow.

Bah, when will you make such events in Europe ???
I would have been honored to meet a few fellow players ... and also curious to see if other fellow players would still be as rude standing in front of me than they can be on message boards ;)

I'm unable to be there, it's too far away but if I were able to go this year, and unless you already have them and I have no clue,...But it seems to be the most awesome thing would be if you could buy replicas of in game stuff out of game. Oh, esp the grenage Ulgrim has at his house and I know someone somewhere sells pookie because a friend of mine saw one. If you havn't seen Monty Python's holy grail movie, the white rabbit and Ulgrims grenade come from that.

I and some friends are plannin gon driving up no matter what but once the rest of info comes out and especially an address on the location would be extremly useful. some items i would like to see are plush monkeys, burun, and virindi. and as mentioned above perhaps some jewlery including shardage/lifestones from the game and of coarse replicas of weapons especially ixir's staff of eyes and weeping weapons and i like the person's idea above with the shirt STFU go red.

I think the Ulgrim's Casting Stein idea is solid. Basically anything that can be useable and still reflect some lore from the game.
An Ulgrim Bathrobe?
Bunny Slippers?
A Miner's Hat, Lumberjack Hat, Trapper's Hat?
Also, I think a certificate for a free copy of the Expansion Pack would be the highlight of the ACPL side of things.
As mentioned before, free access to the Beta tests of MEO and D&DO for those parts of the event. Maybe copies of works from the two franchises as well (a leather-bound LOTR book, or a selection of the various D&D guidebooks).

due to it being in RI in northern US i would much appreciate maybe turbine listing some helpful places to eat, or lodge and such to post on the site or hand out in brochures at the convention seeing as how many people will be coming from outa state such as me from way south in florida and flyin gup and not being 21 to rent a car knowing soem locations and public services would be good and not knowing the area at all. and ulgrim's casting stein mug awesome idea. also what i would think would be cool is little figurines of AC critters and items made of pewter or somthin.
Wulfgar

also some estimates on ticket prices would be cool ive never gone before because i was to young and knowing how many extra hrs at work ill have to take on for travel, lodging, spenind cash and tickets would be nice lol and how bout the next one being located farther south like the carolinas or some other states a little farther south and out west a little more so it wont b eint eh middle of no where but will make a mroe centered location for people to travel to.

Heh, I'd like to see another Midwest version of the same. I didn't know about the Minneapolis one until...just now, and various work-type-things have prevented me from going to the other ones. I have met a few fellow players (and one past or present Turbine code tester) IRL, drank with one, and even attended the wedding of two of them. :)
That jewelry guy on the general discussion board seems to have some cool ideas. Cufflinks, maybe engraved with the Realaidin sigil or something, would be spiffy--seriously. Official Ty AC Beanie Babies would make one heck of a collector's set. Incense burners would rock--especially using the image off the Aphus Lassel shirts (whatever they're called) and placing the incense in its mouth.
Ooh, almost forgot, Realaidin Raiment-style jammies!!

Actually for ACPL and just for the general Cafe.press shoppe, I'd really love to see:
T-shirts with server icons.
I know AC2 has/had server icons, isn't it about time AC got them too? :) Assuming there aren't already some, and if so, I can't find them :(
Even if the idea wasn't used for the ACPL (at least this years), it'd be fun to have maybe a player contest. Who can design the best icon for Leafcull, for Wintersebb? And so on.
You could make the server icons available on the basics at Cafe.press or just used to show off our server pride as avatars on the boards =)

How about having Turbine to send their reps to visiting and touring the gaming convention such as Origins, Gencon, or Dragoncon instead of E3.
it would draw new bloods and new ideas, and possible finding new talents.
Those big "multi-games" conventions do have small pc games section, and it growing bigger every year and we need Turbine reps in some regional conventions.
my theory that i guess, that in next few years that most other online devs will try to tap market in those conventions, and Turbine may need to get involve and stay competitive instead of focusing on E3.
i see that we do love to have merchandises and soveniers for collection and some memos for having fun when some folks cant go to ACPL events.
mugs, robes, fluffy/or action dolls, and T-shirts can be feastable if they are right prices.
I, for one, like to have those miniatures for dungeon and dragon game flavor for tabletop rpg, or heroclick figures if the contract is good.

I would pay a fortune if the lore of AC was made into a novel :), or a series of books. A place to read it, from start to present,,, not in fragments.
p.s. - A history video would rock also.

I'd buy some t-shirts if there was a better variety, and the quality of the shirt was good (like Hanes Beefy T-shirts). Some sort of action figure? Like tuskers or Olthoi?
How about you give us a reason to have a high level cooking skill? Like mixing the various dyes to get a better variety of colors. It gets old sometimes seeing the same old colors. With the available colors, white and black, we could make any shade we wanted.
A high quality video (no fuzz) of the history of the game. An inside look on what you all do to get the patch made and ready to deliver.

Ulgrim's casting Stein as a beer mug!!!!
the thing is, lets say half the players are male (may be more), 99% will drink beer (face it guys, we're slobs :) )
All of them will think this is cool, and buy one. half the accounts in AC paying 15-20USD for a decent beer mug is like getting an extra months subscriptions - easy money for turbine.
