Wahoo! Looking forward to the next patch, and dont have any problems with the event date being pushed back. Get it right and it's all good!
I am glad to hear there will be support for allegiance chat. Is something in the works to help you see who in your allegiance is currently on? I find it very nice to be able to actually see who in the allegiance is playing when I use allegiance chat via Tank.

Give archers PK love ... I'm tired of paying 10$ a month for a castrated template, I went to sub again today and experienced the feeling I have before "3 people delay casting bloodloather on my bow" and I'm sick and tired of this being called "BALANCE" If its balance why is 60% of darktide mages, and 35% melees?
Respond please.

Given the big announcement in the LttP, I must ask this next question:
Sometime soon, can we expect horses, capes, and horses with capes? :p
Seriously, I am really excited about this next patch. This game just keeps getting better and better :).

Allegiance chat sounds good and all, but something I been wondering is how this will work in large allegiances :|
Are you guys going to add regional chat like in AC 2?

Does this use an implementation of Turbine Chat, the marvel of a chat engine that Turbine developed to replace the crappy GUN system for AC2? If I am not mistaken, regular AC chat is handled by the same servers that manage the game, which would mean that /a could possibly add to lag, and I really don't want to see that.

It does in fact use Turbine Chat, which is exactly how we were able to do this without increasing server lag. The problem of server lag had been the insurmountable obstacle in the past, but this allows us to circumvent it altogether.
There are no current plans to add regional chat, but it is something we have discussed and it has not been ruled out.

I do believe that archers have an upper hand somewhere along the line of PvP because the damage it does when hit is tremendous. just like when a melee wishes to battle a mage, the melee would want a partner to be with (preferably a mage) to imp and vuln the target because it is difficult for a melee to get any hits in until the mage does a revitalize or a stam to mana spell. as an archer, melees fear u if they are imped and vulned because fast attacks from a bow are massive and health pounding. i believe there is an even balance as of right now between all temps.
Virindi Clown
01-09-2004, 05:56 PM
With the upgrades to melee weapons, they do more damage than the bows. The bows basically sucked in the first place after their mods were nerfed. And now they can be BLed. I killed a baned archer with my melee unbaned the other day, so there is no way they do decent damage.
As for hitting people on speed, that just doesn't happen. Tons of people on DT have missile defense, because it's obvious no archer is ever going to kill you once you have it, even if its barely raised on a 10 quick/coord mage. I just buff my missile defense and hit back at the same height and evade speed attacks without even having it trained. That's not even taking into account the fact that most people are mages, and they can just wiggle and make every arrow miss.
Bow damage used to be comparable to melee damage in the same way it is PvM. Archers still absolutely obliterate monsters. I always see guys shoot strong bugs once with a bldg rend bow and it will have like 10% health left. Melees sure as heck don't do that, and with AR weapons it was just as proportional, because it was applied to the same weapons element rends are now.
However, weeping weapons do not balance in the same fashion as the loot weapons did, because their stats and slayer bonuses are entirely different. Bow just plain sucks now.

I want to thank you guys for trying to be more informative and communicating so much. It's very helpful and encouraging.
Along the lines of in-game chat is a request I've had, but not ever really found the right place to give it (although I've posted it a few places in the past just in case). So if you could address it here, e-mail me back, or direct me to the right place, I'd appreciate it.
Since we have the capability of knowing who has entered/left a fellow, and we know when someone in a fellow has died/leveled, and we also know when our patron/monarch logs in and out, or people on our friends list, and thirdly we can locate where our corpse is....Could we please combine some of these to give us the following:
Tell us when our vassals/patron have leveled (so we can congratulate them immediately if we're logged on)
Tell us when our vassals/patron have died (So we can see if they need help recovering)
And find out where a vassal/patrons corpse is, or locate where a corpse is of someone who has given us permit to loot them.
I think these things would be very helpful and would encourage us to communicate with and assist others in our lines. Thanks for listening and for the hard work.

It'd also be nice if we was something like allegiance chat 1 and 2, so you could have people in separate "rooms." Since it won't be lagging the game, that shouldn't be an issue.

I think its a step in the right direction, but I also feel Turbine should delay it a bit more. As a figure-head monarch with 4K plus members, of whom I estimate around 1000 are active right now, I have some serious reservations about your plans for January.
Per the Lttp:
Our initial implementation of allegiance chat is very straightforward -- if I am in an allegiance, and I type @a Hi! or /a Hi!, all the members of my allegiance will see [Allegiance] Ibn says, "Hi!"
If you are in an allegiance, you will be added into your allegiance chat channel as soon as you log in. If you aren't in an allegiance, you'll be added as soon as you swear to a patron, or have someone swear to you.
If you do not wish to see Allegiance chat, type @filter -allegiance, just as you would for any other message type. When you want to see it again, type @unfilter -allegiance. If you @squelch a character, you will no longer see that character's speech in Allegiance chat.
We plan to add a number of additional features to Allegiance chat, as time permits. For example, currently there is no way for a monarch to remove someone from the Allegiance chat channel other than removing that character from the allegiance completely. We hope to introduce that feature, as well as other options, shortly.
Without those additional promised tools, "/a chat" will be a mess, and for large monarchies, I predict serious spamming and a high potential for abuse.
My personal opinion likely goes against the grain here, but I would feel much better about the new feature if Turbine would postpone the release until the tools to manage it are ready.
Some things that I feel should be included in the "/a chat" toolkit:
- Ability to delegate chat management to at least two other people, at a minimum.
- Ability to boot a character AND their account off the chat channel, and keep them banned by account until unbanned by a chat manager.
- Ability to add moderation to the channel. What does that mean? Just like IRC, I see value in the option of designating the "/a chat" as read only, until a chat manager can give a person a "Voice".
Some nice to haves:
- Since this apparently replaces the current monarch only /a chat ability, allow the monarch AND the delegated chat managers the option of marking messages to the channel with a different color, so that important announcements can be seen against the traffic.
- On the same note, if someone has squelched the channel to make hunting more bearable, allow chat managers to send allegiance messages that override that squelch.
I can think of more, but those are at the top of my list.
Thanks!
Sangria

My clan uses Meginjarder right now. Not evereyone uses it of course.
Keep in mind there are those who wont want to see chat and will squelch it. There are those players who never say anything. Some who dont talk while they hunt.
A lot of monarchies have a lot of members but only an average of 1/5 can be on at once, time zones limit the amount even more. The worst time will be in the evenings USA time. That is when the most players are on at once.
Before we shoot it down we need to see what happens. If it dont work they can do a quick fix and take it out , work it over more and add it back at a later patch.
I expected the patch to be late when it was announced the servers would be moving during that week a long time ago. It never occured to me you would try to do both things at the same time.
QUESTION : ONe thing I look forward to is the open chat while we wait for the patch to go in. Will that be available to us yet or is that a future thing? I know - so many things to do and so little time:p

I've always griped about the AC chat functionality but at this point I think Turbine is too far behind the curve and should focus its energies in better avenues than to try and reinvent this wheel.
Turbine chat's major shortcomings:
lack of moderation - need more than just the monarch to police the channel, you need more than two. More like a few in each time zone for bigger clans. Also moderation and rules are no good if people cannot be kicked/banned both as individuals and on an account/login basis.
Lack of depth - I am in a very large clan, we have 20 IRC channels. A bit overkill as we have multiple fellowship/quest channels, but we have 5-8 channels in use at all times to keep chat broken into managable subject matter.
Turbine chat's minor shortcomings:
Lack of connection - being able to connect to chat outside of the game is a valuable asset for moderation, clan leadership, and deeper community.
Lack of scripting - With chats lack of vi/emacs bindings, as well as the inability to run code in chat it makes moderation that much more difficult (language bots for example) to simply fun things like trivia bots. Channels are that much easier to manage with the ability to set color as well. Not to mention how do you chat for any length of time without a good troutslap.
Lack of interclan connection - The ability for clans to be able to connect to each others chat makes inter-clan events and serverwide events that much easier. We frequently have serverwide quests where people from any clan are invited to join, but all direction is given from one of our quest channels they must tune into.
Now of course any of these things are not major hurdles and something Turbine could achieve, but combined all of these things are a pretty big undertaking. I just have to think that A) Turbine wouldn't have the time or desire to meet all of these points, and the time they would spend on it would really be able to greatly benefit the game elsewhere.
If anything it would be great to see Turbine just run an IRC server, give us the ability to join/manipulate it in game as we would MIRC or *****X out of game, and possibly give the existing chat system vi/emacs bindings to allow a moderate level of aliasing/scripting/triggering to aid in that and all around improve many aspects of communication in game.

A big part of a monarchy is the monarch themselves. To set expectations and to make sure they are followed. A monarch not only is responsible for his own happiness but that of his people.
For instance, there is someone spamming, swearing or whatever. People complain to you and you warn the toon.
Next day you log back on and the player is still doing it.
Now, you have a player in your clan who does not respect you or anyone else in the clan.
BOOT THEM - problem solved. If it ticks off their patron boot them too.
For some reason some monarchs associate a successful clan with numbers. Quantity over quality. Therefore - you will always have those problems.
After these people get booted from a few guilds and find out no one wants to put up with them they will learn or play alone.
If it dont bother you enough to boot them - what's your gripe? live with it.
To me - a successful monarchy is one that can mule on the mansion lawn without fear.

I think So far that Y'all Are doing a great job. I want to know if we are still going to pay for subscirptions through the zone or are you all going to take this over
First, I cannot stress enough how very good it is for you to be finally adding allegiance chat. Every little thing you do to make communication better is appreciated by all the new players who come to this (in their words) lonely, lonely world of Dereth will make it more acceptable to them.
Second, please tell me that you're not once again making an moderate level hunting ground (Caul) unsafe for those of moderate level. You've already made the Aerlinthe quest unachievable by level 45-55 fellows.. even if they're full. Enough is enough.
The experience chainers and UCMers own enough of the world already. Please stop designing content around players being excessively high level. While you're at it, make the leadership skill a requirement for experience pass up and retroactively hardcap player levels at something achievable for a player in 4-6 years of non-exploiting play... say level 160.

they say in the lttp that stuff like that will be added in the future but isnt possible at this time.
with the new /a chat coming in, are there any plans on beefing up the chat system?
i dont want to see its totaly ruined like most games.
would be nice to see like small buttons that would convert the existing chat screen.
like a button for normal window, a button for /a chat and a button for /tells ect..
click the button and the old chat window switchs 'pages' per say, and its strictly the /a chat or the /tells or the old basic chat.
if you understand what im saying.
i would hate to see more annoying chat huds all over the screen, its small enough as is.
Thanks.
ps, Also are there any plans on makeing Auctions Houses / Delivers Boxs for Towns? would realy help spice them back up.
if you need refrence on this check out FF XI's idea on it, its about the only thing that was good in that game.
and with the HUGE trade base AC has, this would realy benafit the game great i think, any feedback welcome :)

:) I am Happy that we are FINALLY getting an Allegiance chat channel that is way over due,
BUUUT, I feel that adding it to the game w/o functionality (control) for allegiance chat moderators(or Monarchs), may be a little premature.
Since I have a small monarchy this chat channel will serve us well, but for those actively large Monarchies, the pain will be bad, unless you give them Control features in game quickly or with the install of allegiance chat next patch.
As for the rest Keep up the good work and Thank goodness you brought the game back home to Turbine, maybe now you guys can get some work done.:D

That has always been in place - it's called SQUELCH.
There is also another more permenant way - it's called booting their spamming potty mouth right out of your guild.
I love this. I think the chat - the way it is set up right now is going to clean a few houses. Players who dont want to see the **** will either get those people booted or they will leave looking for a better guild.
Eventually the griefers will end up in a few guilds while the rest of the guilds get stronger with a better caliber of player.

Hey, since you're working on the social functions, how about granting us the ability to (/house recall_<friend>)?
This would be most appreciated :)
And as for control, let it be ruled by the already existing (/House Guest List), If they're allowed though your door then they're allowed to recall to it. :)
Or maybe, if you want to, add another sub command (/house portal add <friend>) that works like (/house storage add <friend>).

I note that we the players will be unable to be in game for approx. 1 day. Will we get a day added to our accounts or were you planning to just let all of us lose a days play?
I amongst other players have become disillusioned with Sings, Plats, MMD's etc and wonder if it might be possible to have a new building put into every town.
This building normally is in all town's but we seem to be without it. What is it? A bank.
It would allow MMD's to be swapped for Sings or Plats and vice versa. I know some people would say that it would negate neccessity for anyone to hunt sings but it would stop a lot of camping and also allow lower level chars to buy things easier.
Have you ever tried to find a bot that accepts MMD's and has something worth buying?
Also people could them store hifh qualities of sings etc within the confines of the bank. This would give a little space back to burdened chars.

Some exciting changes coming, I can't wait to see how it all turns out.
I'm wondering about the server move next week. Will there be a purge of inactive accounts at the same time the servers get moved? I'm assuming the my recently lapsed accounts will still be there, since Turbine explicitly guarantees us 6 months to reactivate them. That's not being changed is it Ibn?
And will older, long inactive accounts (like some of my very old vassals who still show up on my allegiance panel) still be there after the move?
Keep up the good work :)

Well what do I think?
I shut down three of my six accounts. Thats what I think. The chain breaking is simply unfair. Sure it wasn't ever intended to work that way in the first place but we have worked with it for so long that it is used to get out rerolls up to snuff. If this is the thing that the minority has been squaking about for so long then simply have it apply to just the new server. I would simply have taken the rate hike in stride but with this news it was time to make my thoughts clear and to discontinue sending Turbine money.
If Turbine decides to go the route that AC2 did in a number of ways then I'll simply reduce my accounts further to just one so that I can pay the rent on my three cottages and my one appartment.
From $759.60 to $379.80 a year. Not much but hey maybe they will listen.

That's exactly right - the exp pass up was not meant to work the way the chains exploited it. Not everything back then was up to Turbine and now it is. Apparently the experience pass up was not something they liked and now they can deal with it the way they want.
Turbine is simply removing an old exploit that I think if they had the power they would have removed a long time ago. Get over it or quit.

Here is my take on the exp changes.
You have a mule that needs leveled - so, you train leadership for a while and build it up.
Then you make friends with someone who has mules they need to do the same with. So you put some playable toons under that guy and he does the same for you.
I think you need 4 vassals and 2 of them must be active??
Then you both play your lower toons building each other up until you get your mules where you need them to be.
I have 2 accounts and 2 computers. I dump my mules I want leveled in a safe spot in the area, fellow with it and go hunting. Every so often I reach over and move the mule so it stays activated.
Soon as the changes hit - my mules will move up fast.
The difference is - I have always done this. Never having had the urge to let a chain tell me how and when to play I kinda had to do things different. So to me - the change is going to be awesome.
What is really nice is the day of and after patch I have a mage I can use to buff my toons - dont even miss the bots. I am pretty much independant.
The only reason I even belong to a monarchy is because the one I belong to is so good.

I am very disapointed. Turbine could have listened to their players, to all the polls and to all the responses to their "We have a vision of the (far) PvP future" posts. Instead of admitting a mistake and redo the weeping changes, at least untill their vision is a bit more substential, they just go along and leave unbalanced melees and useless archers in there wake.
We have been told that several members of the life team "have their mains" on DT. Tell you what, if that's true and you cannot see that the changes were wrong, then they are all playing mages and suck at PvP.
While I am sure that the new features and the new content will be great as usual, PvP still suffers from various wounds and the band-aids are coming off....

I sort of like the idea of leaving thing alone w respect to the chains, but its too late gang. Chaining was not intended, fine, but it was allowed.
Everyone had equal oportunity to either use or not use a chain depending on personal choice (I tried it a couple times but made no significant gain for the headache).
These new changes will only succeed in REWARDING (further) all the people that capitalized on the ALLOWED system of experience pass up. This occurs while simultaneously cutting off other players from using this feature in the same way.
I sympathize with all the people that feel like Dereth has changed into a level factory. I remember the beginning (yes I was a carebear back then). The choice of how YOU play, YOUR toons, on YOUR time, is still up to you.
Alot of us have found leveling (after the first couple times) to be tedious and boaring. Using chains for some allowed them to skip doing something they didn't like and enjoy the game.
Does it effect you that much to know someone else is a higher level than you?
Does it bother you that they got there in 3 weeks as opposed to your 3 years?
Maybe the problem isn't with chains maybe its with this "I had to walk up the hill both ways in the snow barefoot, and so should you" attitude im seeing from people. People who hide bitterness and resentment (How dare that noob be better than me already?) behind a holy "I'm an AC purist" banner.

)Hey, since you're working on the social functions, how about granting us the ability to (/house recall_<friend> )?
This would be most appreciated
And as for control, let it be ruled by the already existing (/House Guest List), If they're allowed though your door then they're allowed to recall to it.
Or maybe, if you want to, add another sub command (/house portal add <friend> ) that works like (/house storage add <friend> ).
Thank you for your time,

 I am really bummed by the mess this patch has made of sleek dresses. It does not matter it the dress is dyed, or redyed, it ends up an ugly mess full of black blotches running through the color. I made an extensive collection of colors, now none are fit to be seen in.

Kachine, the sleek dresses is a known bugs.
The devs have promised to dry clean every dress by hand during the next patch. (Or something like that, maybe they'll just fix a texture bug.)
