When, Im baned Im at 900 al but when a sword does a full power smash that does 80 dmg ...
So Im wondering if I get to 1200-1300 is it the same??
Is al linear??
Because that would help me to know if I really need to get some 450-500 al parts or just 350 would be cool :)
I don't know if it's linear or not, but you will notice a vast improvement from 900 to 1,200.

That is wrong. You will not notice a "vast" improvement, and here is why.
The higher AL gets, the less each point matters. When you impen tinkered armor and then bane it, it helps because it adds so much AL, but by then each point doesn't mean much. On top of that would be your buffed clothing, which I would imagine is another 440 AL.
Your hands, head, and feet would have noticably better protection with AL 1200-1300 armor over 900, but you will not see much of an improvement because your lower legs, upper legs, girth, chest, lower arms, and upper arms are already covered by your clothing.
Better armor will make a little difference, but from 900 AL it will only be a few points off of each hit at best. A crit would go down a small percentage, but you would still be getting hit pretty hard.
If your problem is the crits, then it's not really going to help you. What it is most helpful with is DoT when someone is repeatedly attacking you with speed attacks.
That's not to say you shouldn't try to get some better armor, but to answer your question, AL is not linear.
