Weekly Update 5/15/06
Hi there from all of us here in wonderful underwater New England! I hope you have all had a safe and dry weekend.
So this week I have chosen to pick out a couple of questions that seem to come up alot on the forums these days.
What is the deal with the Pre- Order gems?
So having seen this one come up alot I wanted to make things as clear as possible. There are no plans to allow people who still have existing codes to enter them now. Players were given plenty of notice that the program was coming to an end.
That being said, we are discussing ways we can make something similar available to players, while at the same time not alienating those people who were able to enter their keys before the program ended.
Where is the high level outdoor hunting you promised us?
In spite of what some have said in the past few weeks, this is till something on the radar. Perhaps it is something that is going to be tied into the story line.
Will there be more Live Events coming in May?
I don’t really want to give away too much information before the May event goes live. What I will say is that when/if we do more events of this nature a schedule will be posted. We saw that people liked knowing when some events were happening, and they also like the spontaneous events. We are still talking about some of the things we saw during these events. The players ability to react and change with the theme of what is happening, is pretty amazing sometimes.
I can say with all honesty that running some of those events was the most fun we have had in some time. We look forward to more of them in the future.
What is in the future for Asheron’s Call?
I can tell you that this is an exciting time to be a part of Asheron’s Call. We have some great things in store for everyone in the coming weeks and months. From things that players have been asking for, to a few surprises that have been needed for a long time, in game and out. When the time comes for all of this information to come out (and that time is right around the corner), we will be making sure everyone knows about it. I am truly excited about the future of Asheron’s Call.
Well that's about it for now. When there is more news on anything, as always I will let everyone know. Have a great day and see you all in Dereth!

Re: Weekly Update 5/15/06
As much as I'd like to believe everything you said, I can't. I really can't keep count of how "lies" this company makes. What really really disappoints me is that you guys steal other tech from LotRO or DDO and implement them into AC and say "hey! Look! Let's pretend we did work and have it as our main addition for the month". That's probably the exciting stuff to come - more LotRO, DDO tech.
I cannot believe you for a second when you say "I am truly excited about the future of Asheron’s Call." because last night the server population for Harvestgain (8PM EST - and thanks to Arch) was 253 - you cannot convince me that AC has a bright future (anymore). And the fact that you guys can't even get the CD Keys out is just absurd.
'Oh hey', what happened to the aug gem timer change? What happened to the Dark Design dungeon balance? What happened to the free trial? What happened to the old quest revamps? What happened to the idea of making something worth fighting for in PK?

Since you brought up pre-order gems....how the heck does one get the gems they were supposed to get when one pre-ordered ToD? I still have maybe half of my toons without all of their gems and the codes were entered shortly after you shipped the boxes to the retailers..........

Re: Weekly Update 5/15/06
In game help can be used to get gems that weren't received, from what I've heard envoys are able to tell if you have entered a pre order code.
Kid, Introducing tech into AC from DDO and LOTRO still takes coding and work, and it is still new tech that has never been used in AC that makes the game more fun.
Though, I'd like to know what "lies" you're stalking about. I haven't seen lies, they've postponed things but not outright lied, unless you're talking about the pvp thing in lotro and then I'm just going to ignore anything you say along the lines of lying and deception.

Forgive kid ... he can't make his mind up about AC. He comes, he goes.
He's just voicing his frustration.

Re: Weekly Update 5/15/06
It was great to know when a live event was going to take place.
Kids, work and a wife make it hard to just be online a lot.

Im sure Frelorn and the rest of the crew know were probably frustrated with the downfall of a great game. Im sure Frelorn would love to tell us anything and everything and not play the politician, but he has bosses. They can't tell us, "Hey, Holtburg is getting a virtual stripclub!" If all the code and etc hasn't been ironed out.

Honestly,
most of the decisions you guys have made in the last year have just alienated one group. Paying customers.
Please sit back and think about that one carefully - you know better than anyone what the numbers are.
As I stated in the thread about this topic that has come up - I'd somewhat put how I feel about the pre-order gem fiacso I got involved in behind me but seeing the discussion and going through what happened again is just making me upset again.
I have my pre-order key, I preordered the game, and at every point I've gotten nothing but cold uncaring reponses from Turbine's customer service representatives.

Re: Weekly Update 5/15/06
The real problem is people like Kid, who blow up on our poor, beleaguered Community Rep every time -anything- isn’t done exactly the way it was planned and on time. I’m sure they’d be glad to give us more information, if they didn’t have to worry about people like Kid creating a PR nightmare if they can’t deliver something on time. As is they have trouble always getting stuff done when planned (CD keys), and have to put up with the issues resulting from that. In the end though, it’s a wonder they mention -anything- until it’s completely implemented and ready to go, and maybe they shouldn’t mention it even then, so that people like Kid won’t try to rip them a new one over it.
At any rate, I’d like to apologize for Kid’s rather rude comments and say that while I’m occasionally frustrated at delays in certain features, I feel that the game is going in a good direction, that I’m glad you’re finding fun new techs to implement based on interesting ideas from other games, and that I hope we’ll be seeing some fun new stuff this week when the patch rolls out.
It’s sad that so many people think that coding is just simple cut and paste, when even when you DO have a piece of technology that does something, integrating it into an existing code base can be a nightmare. Even worse, the way that some people have criticized the team for a lack of originality is equally sad. The idea of a multiplayer online environment was no longer original when AC came out, but the way it was done -was- original. That’s the real thing to always look for, ways that things can be implemented without just directly cloning something done elsewhere. I’m sure you’ll find innovative ways to implement the new techs to really surprise us and keep us having fun.

To tell you the truth and as harsh as it sounds, I do not believe Frelorn is doing the job right and when I say that, nobody does their job right. And I know anyone who was in Frelorn's circumstances would say "I am truly excited about the future of Asheron’s Call." considering they are employed by the company. Either that or they can get fired by their boss. And like I said, (IMO) it would be a miracle for AC1 to recover because we've had higher numbers than that when there were no patches for 6 months (pre-ToD).
Frelorn has said there will be CD Keys, a free trial, improvements and all that good stuff but when is it ever going to happen? I do not see much happening except for "candy" to keep us quiet til the next patch (allegiance improvements this month).

Frelorn please do expand on everything and try and hold off announcements unless you are able to tell us more. Over a week ago didn't you say you hoped to have more information on a free trial and something about who would be the supplier? You said you would post more that same day but it's been over a week and still nothing (unless i have missed it).
Some things should prolly stay quiet until you are able to release all the information pertaining to them. It may be better to hold off rather than say we have something we will tell later today and two weeks later still nothing.
I love AC and hope it does have a long life left in it. GL with everything in development!
