I wonder what it will be like> hopefully they'll do more then just a list of you timers (ie 3 days for bobo or 21 days on Jaws ect. ect.) and have it list what parts of quests you've done (after the change of course, would be nice if it would read all quest flags however) what I mean is something like this
QUEST PANEL - Quest Timers
BOBO : 2d15h23m Left
Voracious Jaw : 1h1m left
Insatiable Jaw : 2d4h23m left
Blank Aug Gem : too long sucker!
Quest Panel - Current quests
Aerlinthe : Handed in Sluice Gate Bar
Elysa's Favor : Handed note to Sir Rylanan
something like that, though I think only the first part will be done, but it would be nice if all the quest flags were shown (that have been done or altered that is)

Re: quest organizer
Wow, can you imagine the task at hand for them? Every possible quest ig, and the flags, trackable in the GUI? That would be the ideal end state, but I can't imagine the work to get there.
I want to clarify - maybe a dev will see this question.
There are some quests that are not solved yet, from my understanding. Any unsolved quest or parts of a quest that are unsolved, will they be omitted from the tracker until they are solved? I would hope so.
Good stuff Turbine. Thanks for taking a stab at it and sharing it as in concept. I love seeing the new stuff talked about.

The quest organizer won't be just a list of all quests in game and the one we are doing will light up. I imagine the quest info will appear in our tab as we do them. So any unsolved quest would be in here.

Re: quest organizer
Im hoping it doesnt show any info on quests that you havent done yet, so that you still have to do atleast some looking and solving in order to do quests. but a tracker for your completion of the quest and timers would be amazing, this also goes along with the people who want turbine to add in the features of third party applications, so maybe they listened to those requests...

lol. My patron ftw.
This new feature may possibly put a light on any unsolved quests. I think that is cool if this is to be the case. Like I have said before, I give up on the stories. Content ftw!

Re: quest organizer
Things are still in the concept phase, but the implementation will be dependent on what quest information is available to the game. Quests with flags are easier, as are quests with timers. It's all those quests that don't give these that become the design issue.
With the number of quests in the game we have to be careful about a tracker that requires information added to the quests because any decision to do that requires lots of changes and the QA to retest every quest we ever put into the game would be... non-trivial.
The quest tracker has two design goals. One is to let players track which quests they have encountered so they can see what they are doing. Another goal is to give the players a summary of the quests they can pursue at a particular level. The team believes that many players don't realize the large amount of quests actually available. If we do something that shows all quests then we would have to decide how hard it will be to have "hidden" quests that only appear on the tracker if you find them.

Re: quest organizer
Wow, that would be sweet Sev. If you get the quests available done, I'll reroll a toon just to quest my way up. I've always wanted to do that, but thought it would be too much work figuring out which quests I could do at which levels.
Thanks for sharing more info. I think we all think this is a great idea and incredibly tough to do considering all the quest in AC. I can understand the flags / timers as you can pull that trigger into the code to update the GUI.
Good luck

Re: quest organizer
I really don't like posting becuase everything turns into a flamefest when you're discussing an MMO, but! Severlin, Frelorn, whoever, my only request regarding this potential quest tab/organizer/whatever is: don't half ass it.
Seriously. AC has more quests than any other MMO out there, and having a quest tab will seriously improve the noob experience, keeping our digital crack cocaine around that much longer. But if it's some little dinky pseudo-help file thing, then you're just wasting your time.
Take your time, do it up right, and wow the pants off us. I know you guys have it in you; you've done it before.

Re: quest organizer
I'd like to see a panel, tab, or something for kill quests. With the amount of character slots (and many of us having multiple accounts), its hard to remember how many kills you have or what kill quests are flagged per character.
A panel with your active kill quests and how many you currently have would be groovy.

No kidding. I actually bit my tongue to prevent saying anything inflammatory...
My needs as a gamer for a quest tracker are simple. What am I doing, what have I done, and when can I do it again. I don't need one as elaborate as AC2's was.
My needs as a fansite manager are different - give me everything

Re: quest organizer
I wouldn't mind something basic that tracks the XP item quests on timers right now (tusks, pincers, etc.).

I'll do it!
lol
seriously, I think you're right, not many realize how many quests there really are - especially ones with multiple levels for several ranges of characters. I'm not saying I know the number either, but it got me to thinking...
... as Maddy said, perhaps it would behoove you guys and therefore benefit us, to simply start on the quests that are repeated the most? No doubt a lot of the time is gonna be spent on coming up with some kind of framework that would work for all quests (eventually) but the ones that most of us truly need the most help on probably are the augmentation ones, tusks, pincers, jaws and the kill quests. And the crafting turnins would be good, but not absolutely necessary as it's fairly easy to get in a pattern of doing it every monday morning or what have you.
I think if yall could concentrate on the above ones, it would *really* help.
One thing though, please please please don't use the tank method of starting a timer for a quest lol. Everytime someone spams the relevant word of a quest in /a, /cg or heck open chat, your timer gets reset. The other plugin that I know of, Questtimer relies on a couple things including picking up the object in question, which works better (It'll do chat too if you want, such as an NPC telling you the completion dialog).
And yes I realize yall no doubt have a lot more sense than what I'm implying above I just thought I'd throw out there what parts I liked, and didn't like, about our alternatives atm.
Speaking of alternatives, as a minor note - bookmarks for books IG would be awesome. Yes, I'm serious lol I use my list of tusker jaw coords, pincer lair locations all the time IG and it can get a little annoying to have to constantly sort thru my books. (To those who say write it down in RL, that works great right up until the time your kids steal your notebook(s) lol)
Anyway, I'm just totally stoked that you're even considering working on this sort of thing! Yall rock!
