Where's the story?

Is there any place or site that has the complete story arc from Asherons Call?

I'm a returning player, and I'd love to read the story on what has gone on for the past few years while I've been away.

I know there are some story arc stories on the wiki, and that Maggies site has all the lore up through late 2007, but where is the REAL story? The wiki is very fragmented and while its nice to have the old lore (from Maggies site), its not easy to piece together the story.

Lore and rumors come out every month that we speculate about, and then learn what some of it means during the month. But there are imho always lots of questions left remaining. Thats why I'd love to read the REAL story as put out by Turbine.

The continuing story is supposed to be the highlight of AC. Where is it?

We are currently in the 9th story arc.

Crossroads of Dereth has summaries of the first 7 story arcs:

Turbine used to provide official summaries as well. I believe they covered the first 2 to 4 arcs. Maggie has archives of them here:

ACDM was a long time ago.

Shame on Turbine for not publishing all of the story arc summaries since then.

Geez, that's supposed to be their claim to fame, that the story goes on and the world changes each month.

How is a new or returning player supposed to learn the story?

I'd guess it was some former dev's pet project, probably stormwaltz, and when they left the summaries left with them.

That's what the links I provided you are for. The fan sites cover all the story arcs and CoD and Asheron.info have huge lore sections.

New and returning players can also learn about the lore the same way long time players have: by going out, doing quests, and paying attention to NPC dialog and reading and lore texts that the quest gives. Part of the fun of the lore is taking all the tiny bits of info you get in game and piecing it together into the larger picture. This can be a daunting task with the 10 years of content, but that where the fan sites come in if you need them.

I've completed a fully archive of Turbine's old A Brief History for Travelers. You can view it here: http://asheron.info/~asheron/index.p..._for_Travelers

The summaries were written by Chris L'Etoile (Stormwaltz), Allan Maki, and Brent Schmidt. They cover all of the 1st arc (The Fourth Sending of Darkness), the 2nd arc (The Rise of the New Singularity) and all but the final 2 patches of the 3rd arc (Elements of Revenge), then they stopped.

Turbine also pulished in-game summaries of monthly events. These are the General History of Dereth Vol. I to Vol. XI, and are available in the libraries in the history shelves. The text is identical to that from the Brief History for Travelers, and the in-game texts only cover up to Hollow Victory--Harvestgain, PY 11 (October, 2000), then they stopped.

Down the road I'll be attempting to make a video on the entirety of AC's story. It will not be as detailed as the text content out there obviously, but my goal is to get just enough in there so that everything makes sense and compliments the text sources rather than replacing them.

However, I want to get more work done on Connor's Adventures in Dereth before I attempt this. The logic behind that is because with a couple more episodes on my belt, I'll have more models and objects created which I can use for props for my custom made 3d stills and short animations that will be sprinkled in with the documentary.

FYI all the lore at the Warcry site is gone... 404 Error: File Not Found

Hey Dev's, could you please provide story arc summaries on your site for the 10th Aniversary?

I don't think that will happen. The 10th anniversary patch is planned to be released around 1 month from now. I'm sure the devs will be very busy this entire month getting stuff ready.

Also any story arc summary the devs could provide right now would probably be incredibly short and most likely contain a few mistakes - just because of the fact that its 10 years of story and none of the devs have worked with AC for its entirety. And these mistakes would probably unfortunately go uncorrected.

On the wiki, story arc summaries are on the list of things we want to get done for the 10th anniversary. And I do really want to get them done. But it is a lot of work to go back and review every quest, rollout, teaser, etc for every patch.
