Last AC post

Well i now know when AC has such a low population and why the game is dying. I have talked to a lot of folks wanting to play but are unable to do the the whole connection lost issues and no tech support helping. Anyhow this is my last attempt to get some answers. here is a list of all steps i took and the outcome.

1. DLed AC- dl and launcher updated fine, vial updated fine.

2. tried to log in on a newly made char on this trial account.

3. came through portal space landed as the blue bubbles and i sit like that frozen til i lose connection to server.

4. started reading on the forums apparently this has been a problem for bout 5 years rofl. Still there is no fix for it. So i started the steps of trying to fix this.

5. i unplugged my router and went directly to modem. it worked fine i ran around in training area.

6. So now i know for sure its a router problem. And here are the steps i have taken thus this far.

7. port forwarding .com seemed like the place to go. so i went there and they asked what router i got.

8. Belkin F5D9231-4 is what i got so i selected it from list and then it asked me what game and luckily Asherons Call was in the list. Although it said i needed 9000, 9001, 9004, 9012, 9013. i then checked other sites that had other through the 9000-9013 range so i just enable all ports 9000-9013 to be safe.

9. it needed my isp to forward the ports too so i open start menu and type in cmd and a dos window opens. typed in ipconfig and it static ip was 192.168.2.2

10. Also on the belkin page i shut off my router fire wall. and i hit save all changes.

11. i then seen a neat little button to restart my router so i hit that too

12. ok ok now that i have opened all ports and forwarded them to my ip, turned off router firewall, turned off my windows firewall, made sure i have no anti virus running.

13. so i log back into game on that new char, through portal space i go and yayyyyyyyyyyy!!
I am still stuck as damn bitchin bubbles c^&ks#$ki%$

sorry for that outburst.

If anyone has any idea what i can do or something i missed plz feel free to post.

Re: Last AC post

This is only a guess but its the best i have. The modem that your router connects to has a built in firewill. Try pointing your web browser to 192.168.1.1 . IF you get a configuration page or a pop up box asking for a user name and password enter your user name and password for the main account. This is usually the email address and password without the @company.com on the end. From here i wouldn't be able to tell you where to go because every modem from ISP's are different. You want to look for two things. The first, is there a firewall enabled on the modem and if so disable it. The next thing I would look for is a DMZ host settings. If you find that setting in the configuration, put in the IP address of your router which is 192.168.2.2. What this does is tell the modem to allow any packets from the outside to go straight to your belkin router.

That is all I can think of right now. I hope that works or you see something else in the configuration that works for you.

or do what i did... buy a linksys router

you can get a refurb WRT54G2 for ~$30 now, my Netgear has been retired.

P.S. I had the exact same problem, but it was unpredictable. enabling DMZ helped, and changing NAT to secure/open back and forth seems to help.

Re: Last AC post

I think you're problem may be related to a firewall or virus protection firewall such as McAfee. This randomly started happening to me. Make sure you turn off decal completely if you're running it, and turn off all firewalls.

Re: Last AC post

Also alot of newer routers do not support "Loose" UDP routing (ie. packets go out on port "X" but come back on port "Y") and what happens is the game is wating for packets back from the server that never arrive hence the stuck entering the world.

You'll need to check with the router manufacturer about whether the router can be made to support loose udp routing or not. Unfortunately if not the game's connection will not function on that model router. They might have a firmware update or configuration change that might enable it on that model though.

**One other thing to check is if your on DSL is NAT versus NAPT on your modem (most likely not an issue here as you said when you took the router out of the connection it worked fine but just in case I'm adding it here as well). If you're on DSL and your ISP says your modem is setup as a NAPT device ask them if it can be configured as a NAT device and still let you connect to them (and thereby the internet). Most DSL providers allow this usually.

Only routers I've used have been netgear and lynksis, and have never had a problem. never even had to forward or anything.

Re: Last AC post

Linksys for the win ....

Spend $30 and get outta the 90's !!!

PS..AC runs on Vista, runs on Windows 7, so please try the suggestions above.

You shouldn't have to disable the firewall. Just pass the ports.

Get AVIRA anti virus NORTON and MCAFFEE are both non starters. (Their fault, not AC's)

"11. i then seen a neat little button to restart my router so i hit that too"

you sure that button said 'restart' and not 'reset'?

if it said 'reset' you might have inadvertently set it back to it's factory standard settings and lost all the port forwarding changes you had just put in. best to double check to make sure your settings stayed on the router.

it's worth trying with another router (as it works fine directly through the modem) - sometimes they are just fickle beasts that will not work in the way you like.
