The players would then fight with them, defend them, save them, etc. against hordes of horrible creatures, Bael'Zharon, Gaerlan, Ancient Olthoi Queen, Borat, etc. Certainly, the players could have the option to aid the evil (The feeling of being able to change the outcome is nice.).
Again, dunno how the events played out. I just hope it wasn't another "Spawn mad cow, spawn big chicken, spawn a handful of hollow minions, spawn white rabbits, repeat repeat repeat, wait 15 minutes, spawn Hero Coins, done."

I like your vision, but we got the reality you thought it would be. With pyre skeletons & dreads.
I missed the first event in MP & the other events started passed 12am my time so at 2.30am I logged ... (had to get up 4 1/2 hours later to get my kids up & ready for school.)
Holtburg and Redspire was a case of spawn mobs, kill them, spawn more mobs, kill them, spawn Hero tokens. Though I went to both I got one Hero token. I didn't get to GY but with the exception of the little ghost it seemed the same deal but without tokens. Loved seeing all the mules being logged on to pick up tokens though....
I honestly thought there would be portals opening up and figures from the past appearing for us to interact with... Or did I read that totally wrong and that odd event in MP was it as far as server interaction went?
Overall, I think Turbine themselves have forgotten how much AC made that ladder for them to reach higher and make their name stand out. Why else would they not make sure the AC crew have extra staff or resources for this special event? By the sounds of it a lot was carried on few shoulders.
Thumbs up for sorting out the billing 40001 error though

Re: what event? was that "all day event"?
I thought the events were fun . I didn't read it as an "all-day event" though. I read it as "sporadic events will happen during the day." And that is what happened it seems; although I expect the staff was stretched pretty thin to get to all the servers through out the day.

Re: what event? was that "all day event"?
Don't get me wrong, it was a lot of fun, but then, it always is when they get us all together
I wasn't expecting something going on all the time either, but for me, it was so late when things actually happened and there was a feeling of 'Is it over already?'
They did say those from the past would come but all I heard about was Martine and Asheron on FF. Maybe they mostly meant the past connected with the floating castle as most of the events seemed to centre around that.
Edit:
Just read about LC having server problems.
If that was the reason events were delayed or simply did not happen, fair enough. Let us know in a global next time though Not everyone is unreasonable & most will understand.

Re: what event? was that "all day event"?
I had a great time at the events, but then again I think my expectations were very much in line with the reality of the events. Having been through quite a few live events in the past, I expected that there would be 1 dev rotating between all the worlds and taking the form of some dev-controlled baddy which would spawn waves of critters for us to fight while slaying players mercilessly and spawning hero tokens on the ground when finally defeated.
Personally, I'm thankful that Turbine at least tries to do something a little special for the players at this point in the game rather than just letting it die. I guess I'm just glad they've kept it going even as profits have dropped and still attempt to please the ever-more-hard-to-please group of remaining players who have seen it all and done it all. I'm usually pretty thankful for every new patch and content we get these days, because I know ultimately it won't last forever, and one of these days the world which we've all loved to spend time in at one time or another will cease to be. The way I see it, they are doing their best to keep things going for us players with the limited resources they have. I see the reality of the situation and I'm just thankful they haven't thrown in the towel yet. I'm not always happy with everything Turbine does (or doesn't do) so don't label me a fanboy, but you have to understand the reality of the situation. Some dev(s) probably put in a good deal of overtime hopping between servers non-stop throughout the day trying to do something special for us that they didn't have to do.
So, I for one, applaud Turbine for their efforts and their continued caring about the AC player base (even if they don't all appreciate it).
For the record, I actually enjoyed the events quite a bit although I've "been there and done that" in many events before. I was lucky enough this time not to be lagged all to hell like in the past (due to some PC upgrades). I got my adrenalin up for the first time in quite a while going toe-to-toe with a dev and was lucky enough to get the kill on the 2nd Gearknight Overlord (which dropped 3 MFKs and a rare 2H fire sword that can hit 3 enemies at a time).
So anyway, I guess overall, I wish people wouldn't complain so much when someone is trying to do something nice for them. You have to realize AC is not a cash cow anymore and Turbine is a business. They aren't going to lose money on AC, so you have to expect that their resources will be limited. I think they do pretty good with what they have to be honest. Be more realistic with your expectations and you won't be disappointed so easily.

I am so torn. I don't know whether to praise this post for its appreciation of the turbine staffs work. Or to attack it for certain unfounded suggestions it makes.

Praise it for its appreciation of the turbine staff's work. Attack some other random person's post...maybe Immortalbob or William the Bat.

Too bad there is no Post of the Day listing, as this would be it.
All I can add to this is a Thank You to Turbine for all your efforts. Thank you for trying, and thank you for the entertainment!

Re: what event? was that "all day event"?
Live Events should be things you cant normally do on your own...
If i want to hunt skels and ghosts i will go to graveyard...Lord M spawns about as many skels as the devs did in holt and redspire, the lag is ridiculous and overall its not worth it, we are all just waiting around for something cool to happen, like a boss spawn, not respawns of crappy mobs we can go and hunt anytime
if i wanted to waste a lot of time getting mfk's (or turning hero tokens in for keys) i would just do one of the 50 (possible exaggeration) mfk quests i havent done in forever or go hunt DI or GY for shards and get decent loot
same with madcows and thunderchickens, if i want this i can go to colo any time i want and see them, these should not be what constitutes a live event

Re: what event? was that "all day event"?
I appreciate the time and effort that these live events take to set up and run. But I still can't say I was very happy about it. I don't expect hero tokens, MFK's, or XP. I do want some story, some kind of resolution, or at least a souvenir.
I was at the attack on Holtburg on Leafcull. Fighting Bael'Zharon, seeing the shadow vortexes, and watching Obliterators destroy people was all a lot of fun. But after killing Bael and the vortexes, there was nothing but a spirit of mercy. No rewards, no NPC congratulating us on a job well done, not even a villain swearing revenge later.
With something as cool as bringing back Martine and Bael'Zharon, I think it's not out of line to expect something more than them showing up, killing a few people, and then dying.
Personally, I would have preferred dungeons opening up throughout Dereth with old foes within them. Leave them open for several hours so that people can have time to get there. I missed out on the graveyard event because I went to take out the trash. By the time I got back, everyone who could summon a portal was already there. Events that end in 15-30 minutes basically ask you to stay glued to your computer for hours at a time. Providing more static and accessible special events would lessen the demands for Devs to personally interact with players.
I hope that the events we have not seen yet will be more accessible and offer some unique reminder of the 10th anniversary celebration.
