Authentication Failed. Please try again (later).
There are a couple of things that can cause this error message when you are trying to log into the game. Please note that
"Authentication Failed. Please Try Again Later"
is different from
"Authentication Failed. Please Try Again".
The plain "Try Again" message generally signifies a technical issue. For this, you might try searching the Knowledge Base (link in my signature). If you can't resolve your issue with any of the articles you find there, then please contact the Tech support department (link also in my signature).
The "Later" message is generally related to the Account, and can be caused by several things. We're aware of these and working to resolve them on a system wide basis.
This can also be caused if the account isn't active, or the game client isn't registering the account as active. To check this, close and restart the game client. If it lets you log in, the system just hadn't fully updated. If it doesn't work right away, try it again after an hour, as the system some times takes that long to fully update.
It can be caused by entering an incorrect password as well.
If restarting doesn't help then these issues can generally be resolved by contacting Account Management via phone or email (links in my signature).
Please ONLY post here if you are receiving the specific error message "Authentication Failed, please try again later." If you are receiving a different error, I CANNOT assist in this thread. Continued non-related posts will result in this thread being closed and all players having to contact Account Management for assistance with this issue.

I was getting the "authentication failed, please try again later." msg and after 20 seconds on the phone with turbine (after 17 min wait) they fixed it. It was because i have LotRo online and had updated to moria--that caused the problem.

There are actually several things that can cause this particular error message. Some do involve account activity with other games.

My AC account has been in accessible with "Authorization failed, please try again later" since upgrading to the Adventurer's Pack in LOTRO on Oct 3.
I have submitted 3 support tickets with no acknowledgement nor reply since then, and even sent one ticket through the LOTRO support page today. Is nobody getting nor watching the support tickets that come in? This sticky seems to indicate that is the process to follow.
I have just found another thread with instructions to post to this sticky with the problem today. So why doesn't this sticky have the instructions to post in case of problems?

My Account issues with AC have now been resolved.
The ticket I opened through the LOTRO support page today got a response.

I just bought and installed AC and am getting the "Authentication Failed, Please Try Again Later" message when attempting to log into the game.
I have an inactive LOTRO account with the Mom upgrade.
The sooner I can log in the happier I will be.

It's been 3 days I resumed my AC account. I have Lotro and Moria not activated. I can log with a trial account. I did try it. So no connecton problems, but I can't log back in with my main account. I sent 3 times a ticket to account issues support. Still no answers. Please, any admin can look it up?

Isarchived, you should be all set now.
DN-LC23, this account appears to be fine, but your other one should be fixed now.
Anyone else having this problem can feel free to post here (preferably on the forum account linked to the game account that is experiencing this issue) and we'll see what we can do.

I have been getting this message since Saturday, for AC only. I was able to log into the game fine on Oct 13. On Oct 16 I ordered the LOTRO Mirkwood Adventurer's pack. Since then I've not been able to log into AC, although I can log into LOTRO just fine. I sent an email to support several days ago but have had no response.
Please don't make me sorry I upgraded LOTRO! /cry

My main acct was one flagged with cannot auth. please try again later. after visiting the acct management page i found that i had forgotten to enter my new cc info (expiration date). One week ago I entered it. I also submitted a request via email for assistance. Last night i checked this acct again, and still had the old date on the cc info so i entered the new info again. Still cannot access the acct. Just how long should a person wait to get access after entering new CC info ?

I been having the same problem, I get the error msg when i try and log into AC, but, I can log into lotro just fine. This did seem to happen right after I ordered the Mirkwood Adventurer's pack.

After installing another turbine launcher(different game), I keep getting this message.

Thanks for patching my account to try and fix the "Authentication Failed. Please try again later." issue. I can now log into the server forums, so that's a step forward.
Unfortunately, still getting the same error when I try to log in. I've responded to your email, but just wanted to make sure you'd gotten the reply.

Edit: You probably noticed, but I have LOTRO lifetime & the adventurer's pack, so not sure if that has anything to do with the problem or not. Cheers.
