Food for Thought
Here is my idea for a new "thing" implicated into Asheron's Call.
A lottery type system. This wouldn't be too complicated, much like the casinos. Allow members to purchase a parchment and be able to write down 5 Numbers say from 1-60. And at the end of every week the member may hand in these parchments to the town crier or possibly a new npc. The winning numbers can be computer-generated for every week. If a member turned in a parchment with correct numbers the system may go like so:
1 Number Correct: A low-tier rare is awarded
2 Numbers Correct: 25 MMDs or a level 3-tier rare
3 Numbers Correct: 100 MMDs or a level 4-tier rare or pre-imbued weapon (if possible)
4 Numbers Correct: 250 MMDs or a level 5-tier rare, Max stat weapon and a title
All Numbers Correct: 1000 MMDs level 6 or 7-tier rare, 1billion exp and a way cooler title.
That is my idea, I think it would be awesome and not incredibly difficult to implicate in to the game. Although for the parchments, while entering the numbers it would have to be a "special" recognizable format for the computer to "read-it". Of course the winnings would have to be reasonable for it to keep its luster, so what I posted was just really for thought.
May be the format could be something reasonable and everyone can understand and do for placing numbers on the parchment, say one number on a blank parchment, press to reach the second line and enter the next number so it may look like this:
______________________
|36......................................|
|55......................................|
|17......................................|
|28......................................| <- Thats supposed to be look like a parchment =)
|33......................................|
|..........................................|
|..........................................| <- Periods are only there for the post (will not be required in the
|..........................................| actually parchment)
|..........................................|
|_____________________|
Any comments, I would like to here back... And again its just an idea that would be awesome in my opinion.

Re: Food for Thought
that idea isnt new, it been around since Eq2 had that introduced somewhere in 2004-2005.
different type of lotto game but play more like slot machine until all the numbers match and start new game with new number set to beat or match.

Re: Food for Thought
The idea might not be new, but that doesn't mean it's a poor idea. The same goes for player-run lotteries... those aren't exactly reliable, or work on a regular schedule, nor would we see cool high-tier rares being offered up. I'm actually all for such a system, but I am not sure this implementation would be that easy to implement. I think it would be easier to have an NPC offer up between 1-50 numbers for sale, and you simply purchase them and pass them in, and in return, the NPC gives you a piece of paper back with the numbers you chose on it.
It'd just be surprised if implementing a way for the game to actually read your numbers wasn't overly difficult. Of course, my idea might be no less difficult for all I know. Perhaps we could just allow the option to beat the lottery-holder to a pulp and steal all the rares and MMDs that our backpacks can carry and run off.
It's probably a good thing I'm not an AC dev.

Re: Food for Thought
Hey now, I never did say the idea was new. I was stating for a "new" system to be in place for Asheron's Call specifically, not any other games.
And Deathspawner you bring up a very great idea with the purchasing of the numbers, it sounds a bit more reasonable and easier then what I had come up with.
And Catalina, the odds are very limited, much like the lottery now days and the odds of winning 5 numbers out of 60 is 1 out of 655381440, but that is why pretty much the best is offered if you do win...
Thanks for the comments, I just want this to actually become more then a scrap sheet of paper of a useless idea in the trash.

Don't be afraid to voice your opinion, that also includes you too Turbine employees. I just want this idea to grow and only can happen with support of everyone. Even if this may not happen in Asheron's Call doesn't mean it can't happen in other games such as LoTR: Online or something.

Re: Food for Thought
everquest 2, the other game.
i played for 3 1/2 yrs like a second home after turbinegame unplugged Ac2, very depressed.
not very long that i did proposed to Sony to have "card games" in eq2 settings, and very shortly they bought denver's game firm that specialized online card games, and they were successfully created "Legends of Norrath".
they had bigger dev team and more resources than Turbinegames ever could have.
years ago, Scenario, previous art/content ac programmer, did discussed with us about having in-game golf course or putt-putt, but he move on to DDO/LotRO and left that goal unfinished for AC.
we have chess games and fishing, fight den, cerenzi races, then recently added Tower defense games, but it will be long time to reach "Lord" rank to be able to play it. it kinda make some folks unhappy with dev's current methods.
Asheron's Call do have lot of potientals to have inner games to be added to rpg settings.
some want to play poker, some want to play backgammon, some want war games like "Battleships", miniatures figures in maze games.
Guild Wars have Polymock, fight club, and few others.
anyway, some kind of lottery or slot system is good idea, but it not new, it nice to try to keep this game healthy and fun to participate.
i would try anything that could win a chance of any rares besides from hunting drops.

Re: Food for Thought
Backgammon, that would definitely be interesting. Despite I don't care for backgammon, seeing it be played in AC would be quite funny =D.

Re: Food for Thought
I might be thinking of something else... but IIRC didn't AC have a mini game built into the UI at launch in 99... but they removed it later due to copywright issues?

Re: Food for Thought
All I know of as "side-features" is Fight cages, Chess, Fishing, Tower Defense, Carenzi Races, and casinos if you can count those. I never heard of a Minigame being removed due to copyright. Can anyone confirm this?

Re: Food for Thought
Ah I found it... was @logopolis let you play a mini game of pong in the UI...
Some people were talking about it here too:
