The solution you all missed.

Remove general/trade/lfg. Then you wont have to worry about language issues anymore and can let the filter do its job. The game was a lot more fun before the server wide chat rooms were added. I say get rid of them all and lets do it oldskool.

Re: The solution you all missed.

I personally think server wide chat rooms made the game more fun for me. I listen to /ct all the time. i just turn off /cg unless I have a question no one on /a knows.

I think removing those are a bad idea

I think it's against policy to mention the names of other games here, but there was one I played that is now gone that had actually removed all global chat channels.

I never quite decided how I felt about it. The channels were incredibly abusive, but it was so... quiet... without them.

Its kind of a gray area...

back when AC had thousands of players, global chatrooms in the game would seem appalling and would only flood the chatbar with more information than any player could reasonably process.

Global chatrooms work pretty nice for AC in its current state, but should there ever be an upward spike in the number of players, some re-thinking of how chat works should be in order. (which I would think would shift more towards a reliance on allegiance chat for social and group functions)

Re: The solution you all missed.

The way to deal with chat channel infractions is simple - very simple. Chat bans. Don't ban them from the game - ban them from the chat channels. Most people who are running their mouths on chat channels just want to be heard. It's all about boosting their e-egos. Take away the audience and the game won't be nearly as much fun for them.

1st offense: 1 day global chat ban (does not affect /a, /p, /c, /v, /m)
2nd offense: 1 week global chat ban
3rd offense: 1 month global chat ban
4+ offense: 3 month global chat ban

The global channels really help the game feel populated even with the lower populations.

I said this first in another thread recently. Also, I asked that the Ninjas be removed along with the global chat channels. So, I didn't miss the solution.

rofl haha nice (I assume you mean the Ninjas in EO)

I agree, back in the golden era, chat would of been stupid and been flooded. Now, its kinda needed. How else would you setup a quest? I mean to say you should remove the chat is just stupid and ignorant. That would ruin the game. You need to be able to contact everyone on the server, which sadly isnt 500 people, its 130ish, some of which are macroing haha. So yeah, keep the chat, grow a set, and stop letting words typed in a chatbox on a 10 year old RPG offend you. Do you guys ever watch TV? Seriously, just ignore it? Werent we taught this in kindergarten?

Re: The solution you all missed.

1) Turbine put in the chat channels for everyone to enjoy

2) Abusive / vulgar language and subject matter is illegal in the game

This means that Turbine needs to ban the players abusing the chat channels (as was stated in a previous post), not punish the decent players by making them turn off their chat

I agree, banning them from chat for a period of time is the best way to go

Are you personally attacking me?
Your clearly not on Darktide. So we are speaking in differn't languages I suppose, but I don't think our server pop gets down to 130 at anytime of the day anymore. The lower hours are about 230 I think. Also, why would you ever quest with somone outside your guild? Can your guild not fend for itself? Maybe try joining a real guild? heh.

But my point is, on Darktide, and I assume the lesser worlds too. Our CG is worthless. I turned on CG 7 times today. Every time it was just spam of people arguing about who won their fight. Every time. They argue for hours about the rules and why each of them won. Happens all day, turn on CG at anytime. You cant squelch it all. So Cg is worthless except to those who believe it to be otherwise, they are the misguided few who will never learn the truth for they refuse to see it. They are you.

Nothing offends me, I have received death threats in AC in detail that would probably make you call the police. CG is simply worthless, and a drain on resources and fun.

To the people who still believe that banning people is the way to solve chat channel issues.

NO, seriously, can you not see the incredible obviousness of your mistake?
Cause I refuse to believe you don't see it.

Yes, remove the Ninjas in EO and PoTB. Because we all have to deal with Ninjas even if we don't macro.

Chat must cause some part of the lag. That is one good reason to remove the global chat channels /cg /ct...

If they removed the global channels why would the game be ruined? Couldn't we still hunt and do quests? To me hunting and questing is the game not reading some stupid junk from some idiot.

You say we need to be able to contact everyone on the server, why? Didn't we used to play this game with no chat channels and no housing. We made trades, we did quests, and it was a lot of fun.

I do ignore the chat, I run with it off mostly. But, it seems like the pace is accelerating of peole coming here and complaining about the chat channels being vulgar.

My solution is to remove the global chat. The reason I came up with this solution is that no problem can be solved by the same consciousness that created it. So, I offered my radical solution.

All you really need is allegiance chat and society chat.

And no, I don't watch TV. I find the Turbine forums more amusing.

Find 8 acquaintances. Seriously, only one quest ingame needs more than 3-4 people. And most not even that.

For you. *shrug* Not for everyone.

If I remember correctly, that lesson came AFTER basic manners and simultaneously with "watch your mouth," "keep your hands and feet to yourself," and "don't share your chewing gum." Seems only one lesson stuck with some.

Going to the local park to toss a baseball around, have a little fun around the lake, and a local gang-banger wannabes are hanging around, whistling through their plastic grills, holding up their sagging Garanimals, and yelling "Yo mama" jokes for 2 hours? Bah, just ignore it.

Grow a set . . . of public manners.

Re: The solution you all missed.

General chat can be annoying... go ahead and leave the channel.

As for abusive language, all it does is prove how rude some people are.

Sure, it's your right to say whatever you want, but it's rude to curse in mixed company.

Incidentally, Asheron's Call is a private forum, not a public one. You have signed away a small portion of your freedom of speech when you click the "I agree" button. For that matter, in some areas you can be ticketed by the police for cursing in public if at least two people overhear and take offense. My sister, who curses like a marine, found this out when she received a warning outside a gaming convention. It should be noted that even she can keep a clamp on her usually foul mouth when she's speaking in public or typing on the forums.
